India bagged a win in the ODI series opener against England on Tuesday, July 12, and defeated the hosts by 10 wickets which has earned them points in the ICC Men’s ODI Team Rankings. India surpassed Pakistan on the leaderboard to take the third position as they now have 108 points to their name.

Before the clash, India was at the fourth position with 105 points but the emphatic win propelled them to jump one place above and overtake Pakistan, who now takes the fourth position with 106 points. While New Zealand is placed first with 126 points, World Champions England rest at the second position, above India, with 122 points.

With a six-wicket haul, Jasprit Bumrah was the biggest factor for the Men in Blue as England collapsed to their lowest ODI score (110) against India. It was a day for the pacers as apart from Bumrah, Prasidh Krishna bagged one wicket while Mohammad Shami scalped three. After restricting England to a low total, Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan did the job for their side.

Skipper Sharma remained unbeaten for a 58-ball 76 whereas Dhawan provided him with utmost assistance as he took the game slowly to end up scoring an unbeaten 54-ball 31. It was a big win for India as the duo chased down the target within 18.4 overs and finished off the game early, leaving the English bowlers wicketless.

It is India vs Pakistan for the third spot

The ICC Men’s ODI Rankings have seen many teams earn big time recently. England’s win over the Netherlands kept them in a dominating position, whereas Pakistan had taken the third spot last month after defeating the West Indies by 3-0. Australia suffered a major loss as they lost the ODI series against Sri Lanka by 3-2 last month, making it a historic win for the Lankans.

India is to play two more ODIs against England before facing West Indies in a three-match series. Thus, the Men in Blue have a good chance to keep their winning streak going and also to keep their spot in the rankings intact because Pakistan is also scheduled to play a series against the Netherlands next month.
