Team Australia finally notched up their first win on the tour. It needed a special effort from the visitors to topple the dominating Indian side. They came up with a spectacular performance with the bat that eventually saw the unbeaten 9 match streak of the Indian side being broken. Aussie openers, David Warner and Aaron Finch, put on a mammoth 231-run opening stand to set the tone for the innings.

A midway collapse after centurion David Warner perished followed that saw the hosts claw back in the game. The Australian team ended up with a total of 334/5 on the board. In response, the Indian team got off to a flying start owing to fifties from Ajinkya Rahane and Rohit Sharma.

However, dismissal of both batsmen in quick succession saw the innings see a depression. Kedar Jadhav (67) and Manish Pandey (33) tried to rebuild the innings and Hardik chipped in with crucial 41 as well. But in the end, the ask was a little too much for the Indian side. Australia won the match by 21 runs.

Here are the Australia Player Ratings for the match:

Aaron Finch – 9/10

Opener Aaron Finch was spot on with his batting yet again. Finch, who had scored a century in the previous game, continued his good run with the bat. He stitched a double century partnership with Warner to give the ideal start to his team. Finch was unfortunate to have missed out on his ton. He was dismissed on 94 that came off 96 deliveries. He hit 10 fours and 3 sixes in his knock.

David Warner – 9.5/10

While Aaron Finch missed out on scoring a well deserved ton, his opening partner David Warner reached the milestone on the day. Warner scored his first ever ton on the Indian soil. He scored a belligerent 124 off 119 deliveries with 12 fours and 4 towering maximums. He put the Australian side in the driver’s seat in the match.

Steve Smith – 2/10

Australian skipper Steve Smith had a rare failure in the match. He has not been clicking in the series and the story was no different in Bengaluru either. Smith promoted Travis Head ahead of himself in the batting order and came in to bat at number 4. But he could only muster 3 runs in the match. Later in the day, he looked wanting for options with his field placing and bowling too.

Travis Head – 3/10

Travis Head got a promotion in the batting lineup and was sent in to bat at number 3. The southpaw showed promise by hitting a four and a six during his stay at the crease. Head got a good start to his innings but failed to capitalize on it towards the middle overs. He could only aggregate 29 runs in the 38 balls that he faced on the day.

Peter Handscomb – 8/10

While the base for the Australia innings was set by David Warner and Aaron Finch, the much needed impetus towards the end was given by Peter Handscomb. Handscomb played a quick cameo to ensure that the score goes well past the 300-run mark. He clobbered 43 runs off just 30 balls. The young batsman hit three fours and a six during his stay at the crease.

Marcus Stoinis – 5/10

All-rounder Marcus Stoinis has been the performer for the Australia side in the series thus far. He had a quiet game in Bengaluru though. With the bat, he came in at the crease towards the end overs. He hit a six and a four in his short unbeaten stay at the wicket. Later in the game, he had to head back to the dressing room after having bowled less than five overs. It was an injury scare that saw him walk off the field.

Matthew Wade – 2/10

After being dropped from the previous ODI, Matthew Wade got a look in the Australian lineup for this particular game. He was under immense pressure to perform. Much to his miseries, his services with the bat were not needed on the day. He scored an unbeaten 3 in as many deliveries in the match. Wade’s keeping was decent enough but he had no moments of glory to boast about in the game.

Adam Zampa – 7/10

Adam Zampa was back into the side as a replacement for Ashton Agar. The young leggie bowled with a lot of heart. Hard hitting batsman Hardik Pandya took special liking to his bowling and clobbered him for consecutive maximums again. But he showed great character by tossing it up to him despite all the attack and eventually got the big wicket. He finished with figures of 1/63 in the 9 overs that he bowled.

Pat Cummins – 6/10

Pacer Pat Cummins bowled well on the day to concede runs at less than 6 runs per over in the match where runs leaked at will. He bowled with sheer pace and aggression. Some of his deliveries hurried on to the batsman and that was good to see from his end. He finished with a solitary wicket in the match. He managed to dismiss the set batsman Manish Pandey at a crucial juncture in the game.

Nathan Coulter-Nile – 8/10

Nathan Coulter-Nile has arguably been the best pace bowler for Australia in the series thus far. He did not disappoint this time around either. He took two key wickets in the game. He managed to dismiss Virat Kohli cheaply in the run chase. Later, he sent Axar Patel packing in the final over of the innings. He finished with figures of 2/56 in the match.

Kane Richardson – 8.5/10

Kane Richardson was the pick of the bowlers for Australia in the match. He returned with figures of 3/58 and took three big scalps during the Indian run chase. He dismissed Ajinkya Rahane, who had hit a fine fifty. Later, he dismissed another half-centurion, Kedar Jadhav at a time when the batsman was looking to cut loose. Lastly, he got the big fish MS Dhoni in the final overs of the match to seal things for his team.
