Two Asian teams fighting it out in the subcontinent meant a good, healthy rivalry. Both are known to do well in the spin department as well. And it was exactly that, a healthy competition except that the batting superseded Bangladesh and the spin in the last innings went India’s way. India won the match and successfully took 20 wickets on a batting pitch.
Team India having won the toss declared after posting a mammoth 687/6. Bangladesh replied with a fighting 388, thanks to Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim. India did not enforce a follow-on and batted to declare at 159/4. The time of declaration raised some eyebrows since it was a tough task to take 10 wickets with just a session and a day remaining on a pitch like that. But India being in the invincible form it is did it, and won by 208 runs, making it their 6th consecutive series win. But that did not come without some bravery from Bangladesh. Here are the ratings of the Bangladeshi players’ performances:
Tamim Iqbal- 2.5/10
The Bangladeshi opener isn’t in the best of forms lately. He scored 24 and 3 respectively. After being run out disappointingly, which can be called a waste of wicket during the first innings, he was expected to compensate in the second one, but that was even more disastrous. His performance in this match will raise a lot of questions on his role in their next series against Sri Lanka because he comes in with a lot of expectations.
Soumya Sarkar- 3.5/10
He was relatively better than his opening partner but still underperformed. Had Sarkar stayed on, a fiery start for Bangladesh would have been possible. He didn’t settle in the first innings and departed with only 15 runs in his name. But a better display was shown in the second innings though he missed out on a half century in the second innings being dismissed on 42.

Mominul Haque- 3/10
Mominul Haque is usually overshadowed by other popular players but again, if he performs, he can change that. He failed to do so here as he scored mere 12, 27 respectively. A little more grit from his side and it would have provided for a perfect cushion for the middle order and made the job easier for the others to follow. A combined 99-ball stay, but nothing worthwhile from him.
Mahmudullah- 6/10
Mahmudullah didn’t fire as much in the first innings as he scored just 28 runs. However, he was a little more composed and settled in the second innings, he registered his first fifty in 11 innings and went on to score 64 off 149. He showed resilience with an intent to save the match but in the end, he was beaten with an Ishant Sharma-short-ball. He was the only specialist batsman to stay on for long and the last among the lot to stay. His dismissal sped up the collapse.
Shakib Al Hasan- 6/10
Shakib loses a point for the ordinary bowling in the first innings, he was hit for 104 runs and remained wicket-less. He was better in the second innings as he dismissed the Indian skipper who was looking to hit aggressively. He also baffled Rahane and bowled him outright. A 103-ball 82 in the first inning brought in the Bangladeshi fight in and maintained a good partnership with Mushfiqur in the process. He failed to pull it off with the bat in the next and fell for 22.
Mushfiqur Rahim- 6/10
The captain scored 127 off 262 and registered his fifth Test century in the first innings. It was his effort that pushed Bangladesh to a decent reply of 388. He didn’t really continue the fight in the second innings and fell for 23. For some reason, he opted to take the aerial route that wasn’t needed at that point in time. His wicket-keeping was not at his best and missed various opportunities and an easy stumping.
Sabbir Rahman– 3/10
A mere 16 runs in the first innings and a typical Bangladeshi middle order 22 in the next. Sabbir was the subject of a Ravindra Jadeja delivery in the first innings and was given a nasty send off by Ishant Sharma in the next one. Two deliveries, two innings, lbw dismissals both, and both absolutely plumb. He never looked settle and didn’t have much to offer either.
Mehedi Hasan– 5/10
In his 42 overs in the first innings, he was hit for 165 runs but took 2 wickets. Credit to him for not letting Cheteshwar Pujara settle. He had an interesting contest with the Indian skipper in the first inning. Mehedi remained wicketless in the next innings. His fielding was terrific and scored his maiden fifty in India. He also provided some depth at No. 8 with 23 runs in his name during the second innings.
Kamrul Islam Rabbi– 2/10
He remained the most uneconomical of the lot as he went for 5.26 runs an over and remained wicketless. Kamrul wasn’t given the ball in the second inning. The scoreboard also reads 3 off 70 balls for him in the second innings. Nothing else to say about him.
Taijul Islam– 4/10
He was the pick of the bowlers in the first innings. In his 47 overs, he had figures of 3/156. He took the big wickets of Murali Vijay, Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane- all three settled batsmen with big scores. In the second innings, he was hit for 29 runs but remained wicketless. However, his 10 off 38 and 4 off 24, according to Mushfiqur was worthy of praise considering he bats at No. 9.
Taskin Ahmed- 4/10
He did a good job by taking the Indian openers repeatedly. In the first innings, he took KL Rahul in his very first over. Taskin dismissed him and Vijay again in the second innings, not letting the openers settle at all. He was only good with the new ball, however. He was hit for 127 runs in the first innings and 43 in the next and 3 wickets in totality for him in the entire match.
