India v New Zealand, 2017: 2nd T20I – Statistical Highlights

New Zealand kept the series alive by defeating India in the 2nd T20I by a huge 40-run margin thanks to an unbeaten 109-run knock from Colin Munro. New Zealand posted 196/2 in their 20 overs with the help of Munro’s brilliant hundred while Trent Boult removed both the Indian openers in his first over. While the required rate kept creeping up, Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni could only make a difference to the margin of defeat.

Here we look at all the stats and records created during New Zealand’s emphatic victory.

1 – Colin Munro became the 1st player to score a century in T20Is against India in India. Overall, he is the 3rd player to score a T20I hundred against India after Shane Watson and Evin Lewis (2).

2 – Munro’s century in this game is his 2nd T20I century with the 101 against Bangladesh in January being his first. He became the first player to score two centuries in a calendar year in T20I cricket and the 4th player after Brendon McCullum, Chris Gayle and Evin Lewis to score more than one T20I century.

2 – Munro is now the 2nd player to score a century and take a wicket in the same T20I game. Shane Watson scored 124* and took a wicket against India in 2016 in Sydney.

4/34 – Trent Boult’s 4-wicket haul in this game is his first in the 65 Twenty20 games he has played so far. In the first T20I, Boult gave away 49 runs, which are the most he gave away in a Twenty20 game.

4 – This was the 4th time India failed to chase down a target in a T20I at home. Three of them have come against New Zealand. They lost to NZ by one run in Chennai, 2012 and by 47 runs in Nagpur, 2016 before this match.

40 – India’s 40-run loss in this game is their 3rd biggest losing margin in terms of runs in T20I cricket. They lost to Australia by 49 runs in Bridgetown, 2010 and by 47 runs against New Zealand in Nagpur last year.

53 – Runs Mohammed Siraj conceded on his T20I debut. These are the 3rd most runs conceded by any player on T20I debut. James Anderson conceded 64 runs against Australia in 2007 while Joginder Sharma gave away 57 against England on debut in 2007.

207 – Number of fours Virat Kohli has hit in T20I cricket. He is the 3rd player and the quickest to complete 200 fours in this format.

212 – Innings Virat Kohli needed to complete 7000 runs in Twenty20 cricket. He is the 2nd quickest to reach the milestone in terms of innings after Chris Gayle (192). Overall, Kohli is the 8th player and the first Indian to aggregate 7000 T20 runs.
