India v New Zealand 4th ODI: India Player Ratings

The visiting side were having a very bad tour of the Indian subcontinent before this game, but after a much-needed win by 19 runs, they made sure that there’ s everything to play for in the final ODI.

After a brilliant performance from India in the previous game, this was a very disappointing outing from Dhoni and co. In the Captain’s home ground as the home side fell short by 19 runs.

Let’s take a look at the ratings of Indian players to see who was the hero and the villain of this encounter:

Rohit Sharma: 2/10

With Martin Guptill back in form for the visitors, same was expected from Rohit Sharma at the top of the order, but the Mumbaikar continued to shoot down our expectations with another terrible performance with the bat scoring just 11 before getting out to Southee.

Another low score as pressure mounts on Rohit!

Ajinkya Rahane: 6/10

Rohit’s Mumbaikar partner was another player who was struggling for form after an impressive Test series.

However, unlike Rohit, Rahane actually applied himself and proved to be an able ally to Kohli and later MS Dhoni, before falling at the wrong time for 57 of 70 balls with 5 fours and a Six.

Virat Kohli: 5/10

Already the greatest chaser of all time, Virat Kohli got off to a good start, and was expected to finish off the game yet again before a rare failure saw him get out at 45 of 51 delivers. The twist in the tale!

MS Dhoni: 4/10

The Indian Captain was brilliant in the field, inflicting an impressive run out of Ross Taylor and being generally spot on with his tactics.

However, MSD never got going with his bat as the Captain failed to carry his team over the line in his hometown, falling to Jimmy Neesham for 11.

Manish Pandey: 2/10

The failure of Kohli and Dhoni meant that Manish had a brilliant chance to turn out a hero in Ranchi. However, a couple of beautiful shots later, the right-hander chipped one to Tom Latham at mid on and continued his disappointing series.

Kedar Jadhav: 4/10

A first ball duck for Kedar Jadhav when India needed him to finish off the game ala Dhoni style!

However, Kedar was very impressive with the ball in the first innings, controlling the visitors run-flow in the middle overs which earn him a rating of 4.

Axar Patel: 7/10

An economy of just 3.8 in his 10 overs, including the wicket of Tom Latham meant that Axar did his part very well with the ball.

With the bat, Axar was promoted up the order at no. 5 and the left-hander didn’t disappoint with the bat either. However, as was the norm today, Axar fell down at the wrong time when India needed him the most!

Hardik Pandya: 3.5/10

An off day for the hero of the first game as the all-rounder struggled terribly with the ball, bowling more than half dozen of wides, before failing with the bat too as the India’s search for match finisher continues.

Amit Mishra: 7/10

What a brilliant performance from the little man with the ball!

After Guptill and Latham got off to a flyer, it was Mishra and Axar who brought the home side back in the game. When the Kiwis threatened to get going in the middle overs, Mishra pulled them back by claiming the wickets of dangerous Williamson and Neesham.

However, a dropped catch of Martin Guptill and being relatively slow in the outfield could be the things should be held against him!

Umesh Yadav: 5/10

While his bowling partner Dhawal Kulkarni was smacked to pieces by Kiwi openers, Umesh Yadav did pretty well with the new ball, causing trouble to Martin Guptill early on.

The fast bowler also continued his good performance in the second spell as the Kiwis were restricted to a decent total.

Dhawal Kulkarni: 4/10

Not a perfect start to the series for Dhawal who came into the side owing to an injury to Jasprit Bumrah. The seamer was taken apart at the start after an early carnage from Guptill and Latham.

With the pitch slowing down eventually, Kulkarni managed to claw his way back a bit, but overall the steamer failed to impress with the ball.

However, he did pretty well with the bat and almost pulled off the unexpected for India but unfortunately, that was never to be!
