India completed their first bilateral ODI series win against a top team since 2014 in style with a 190-run huge win over New Zealand at Vizag. In the series decider, India elected to bat on a slow wicket. Rohit Sharma made up for his failures in the series with a quick-70 at the top while Virat Kohli scored a fifty and built the innings in middle overs. Chasing 270 to win the series, New Zealand lost Guptill in the first over itself. New Zealand were at a decent position losing two wickets for 66 runs before Amit Mishra came to the party. He picked up a 5-fer and ripped through the visitors’ middle and lower order who were bowled out for just 79 runs. Mishra was adjudged the man of the match and the man of the series. Here we look at all the stats and records recorded during the game.

1 – Amit Mishra became the first player to take 15 or more wickets in a bilateral ODI series on two different occasions. He picked up 18 wickets vs Zimbabwe in 2013.

1 – This is the first time India won an ODI while batting first in 2016. They batted first only in 4 ODIs out of the 13 they played this year. Interestingly, India batted first in first 3 ODIs they played this year and lost in all 3. Since then, they batted 2nd in 8 consecutive ODIs before this.

4 – Number of times Virat Kohli scored 300+ runs in a bilateral ODI series, joint most times by any player. Rahul Dravid and Quinton de Kock also scored 300+ runs in a bilateral ODI series on 4 different occasions.

5 – Number of ducks in New Zealand innings. This is the 2nd time 5 NZ batsmen got out for ducks in an ODI. This is the 3rd instance for a team against India and the first time in India in ODIs.

8 – Wickets taken by Indian spinners in this ODI. Last time Indian spinners took 8 wickets in an ODI was in 2014 at Dhaka vs Afghanistan.

13 – Most wickets taken in a bilateral ODI series against New Zealand before Mishra’s 15 in this series was 13 wickets by Shane Warne, Darren Gough and Sunil Narine.

14 – Runs Bangladesh added against India at Dhaka in 2014 for their last 8 wickets. New Zealand added 16 runs for their last 8 wickets in this ODI, the 2nd lowest against India.

15 – Wickets taken by Amit Mishra is this ODI series, joint 2nd most by an Indian in a bilateral ODI series. Mishra himself holds the record for most wickets in a bilateral ODI series for India with 18 wickets along with Javagal Srinath.

16 – New Zealand lost their last 8 wickets for 16 runs, the 2nd lowest they added in an ODI for last 8 wickets. They added just 15 runs vs Australia in 1990.

23.1 – New Zealand’s innings lasted for 23.1 overs, the lowest they played before getting all out in an ODI. Previous lowest was 24.4 vs Pakistan in 2000.

136 – Runs added for opening wicket by Indians in this series. These are the lowest for India in a series (Min: 5 games) at home since India-Pakistan series in 2007 where the Indians aggregated 114 runs for the opening wicket.

190 – India’s margin of win in this game is their 4th highest in terms of runs in ODI cricket.

269 – India’s total of 269 is the 3rd lowest first innings total after which the team won by a 190 and more run margin.

1996 – Last Indian spinner before Amit Mishra to receive a Man of the Series award in ODIs was Anil Kumble in 1996 against Pakistan.

2006 – Last time before this series, an ODI series/tournament played in India didn’t record a 300+ total was in India-England ODI series in 2006. (Min: 5 games)

2010 – Last time a team lost their 1st wicket in the opening over without no runs on the board on two occasions in a series against India was Sri Lanka in 2010 in Bangladesh Tri-Series.

2014 – Last time Virat Kohli finished as highest run-getter in an ODI series/tournament for India was vs Sri Lanka in 2014 at home. Since then he featured in 5 series/tournaments before this.
