The rain did finally stop on day four and the ground was fit for a 2 pm start however, it rained again before 2 pm and blew away Indian hopes of forcing an unlikely result.
It’s a pity that only one day’s play has been possible in this highly anticipated Test. The wet weather coming from India’s east coast has played a spoilsport in what should have been a fantastic match for India given the start they had. The home side was in a great position and looking to take a huge lead in the first innings which could have put the game beyond South Africa. India will need to maintain similar intensity in the next Test at Nagpur since the series is still wide open. As for the Proteas, they will need much introspection as they look to bounce back in the series.
Brief scores:
South Africa: 214/10 (de Villiers 85, Ashwin 4/70, Jadeja 4/50)
India: 80/0 (Dhawan 45*, Vijay 28*)
