Sri Lanka managed to draw the final Test match thanks to a brilliant fight by their young batsmen on the final day where they lost just two wickets. Dhananjaya de Silva led the charge with a stroke-filled hundred while the debutant Roshen Silva and Niroshan Dickwella batted out the final session after de Silva walked off due to cramps. Despite the draw, India took away the series by 1-0 margin and extended their series winning streak to nine in this format.

5 – Number of man of the match awards for Virat Kohli as captain in Test cricket. These are the most number of man of the match awards for an Indian captain in this format. Mohammad Azharuddin and Kapil Dev received four man of the match awards apiece.
5 – Number of man of the series awards as captain for Virat Kohli in International cricket. These are the most number of series awards for an Indian captain along with Mohammad Azharuddin. Two of the five series awards Kohli received as captain were in Test cricket. Only Azharuddin and Kapil Dev have multiple series awards in this format.
9 – This is India’s 9th consecutive series win in Test cricket a streak that started after a 2-1 win against Sri Lanka in 2015. These are the joint most consecutive series wins in Test cricket alongside Australia’s nine consecutive series wins between 2005 and 2008.
31 – Number of wins for Virat Kohli as captain in International cricket in 2017. These are the joint most number of wins for a captain in a calendar year. Ricky Ponting also won 31 Internationals in 2005 which includes a win while leading the ICC World XI. With Kohli won’t feature anymore this year, he will be sharing the record with Ponting.
74* – Roshen Silva became the 4th Sri Lankan after Roy Dias (0 & 77), Dimuth Karunaratne (0 & 60*) and Athula Samarasekera (0 & 57) to score a duck and fifty on Test debut.
119* – Dhananjaya de Silva became the 9th Sri Lankan to score a century in the 4th innings of a Test match. This is the 7th highest individual score for Sri Lanka and the highest since Kumar Sangakkara’s 130* against Pakistan in Colombo (SSC) in 2009 in the 4th innings of a Test. This is also the highest 4th innings score for a visiting batsman in India surpassing Vivian Richards’ 109* in 1987 at this venue.
200 – Dinesh Chandimal’s 200 runs in this Test are the 8th most by a Sri Lankan captain in a Test match and the most in a Test on Indian soil. The last instance of an SL skipper scoring 200 runs in a Test was by Angelo Mathews (248) against Pakistan in 2013.
299/5 – Sri Lanka’s total of 299/5 is the highest 4th innings total for visiting teams in India in Test cricket. They surpassed Windies’ 276/5 which came in 1987 at Delhi only.
493 – Runs aggregated by the captains of both the sides Virat Kohli (293) and Dinesh Chandimal (200) in this game. These are the 4th most runs aggregated by captains of both sides in a Test match. The highest is 614 runs in the England-India Test in 1990 at the Lord’s.
