India v Sri Lanka: Angelo Mathews declared fit for final ODI
During the second ODI of the same series, at Mohali, Mathews was seen suffering from cramps after his lone battle in the match.
Team Sri Lanka have received a big boost ahead of the final ODI of the 3-match series against India. Their senior player Angelo Mathews has been declared fit for the game. For Sri Lanka to pose a threat against the in-form Indian team, Mathews had to be in line to play the final game. The third ODI of the series will be played on Sunday at Vizag.
The series stands leveled at 1-1 at the moment. Hence, the Vizag ODI becomes the all important decider for the series. Amidst this backdrop, there were rumors about Angelo Mathews potentially missing out on being a part of the match. However, as per the reports in the Times of India, the Sri Lankan team manager Asanka Gurusinha, has confirmed that Mathews will play in the final ODI.
“Angelo Mathews is fit. He suffered from cramps at the end of the last game. However, he has recovered. He bowled as well as batted in the nets today. All our 15 members are fit and available for selection,” Gurusinha quoted.
Mathews’ form in the series
During the second ODI of the same series, at Mohali, Mathews was seen suffering from cramps after his lone battle in the match. Mathews had scored a century in the losing cause in the match. He has been a key player in the side in this particular series thus far.
In the first ODI at Dharamsala, he had bowled in tandem with Suranga Lakmal to rip through the Indian batting. In the second ODI, the Sri Lankan skipper handed the new ball to Angelo Mathews in the very first over of the match. Later in the game, he scored a century with the bat.
Commenting on the series, the visitors had shocked the Indian side at Dharamsala to register an emphatic 7 wicket win. In the second ODI, they were blown away by Rohit Sharma’s record third double ton in ODIs.
