MUMBAI, INDIA – MARCH 31: Darren Sammy, Captain of the West Indies consoles MS Dhoni, Captain of India, after his team beat India during the ICC World Twenty20 India 2016 Semi-Final match between West Indies and India at the Wankhede Stadium on March 31, 2016 in Mumbai, India. It was heartbreak for the Indian fans at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai after West Indies chased down the formidable target of 193 runs set by India to knock out the hosts from the World T20. India’s journey ended in a rather disappointing manner as they were made to look totally hapless by their counterparts. India were put into bat first. The new opening pair of Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane gave a great start. Virat Kohli extended his amazing run and scored yet another big fifty. All these batting efforts saw India propel to 192/2 in 20 overs. In reply, the West Indies got off to an ominous start, losing Gayle in the 2nd over. But, Lendl Simmons gave a wonderful exhibition of power-hitting. Simmons along with Andre Russell and a slice of luck saw West Indies knock out the target easily with 7 wickets and 2 balls to spare.

Rohit Sharma – 8/10:

Rohit Sharma came out with his new partner Ajinkya Rahane and stitched a 62 run stand for the 1st wicket before Samuel Badree trapped him leg before in the 8th over to end his stay at the crease. He made 43 off 31 balls laced with 3 fours and 3 cracking sixes. There was a huge amount of pressure on the Rohit to perform today as he was playing in front of his home crowd. And as expected, he did not disappoint and looked very fluent with the bat.

Ajinkya Rahane – 8/10:

Shikhar Dhawan lost out his place owing to the poor string of performance and was replaced by Ajinkya Rahane at the top. The Mumbai batsmen lived up the expectation and struck a fluent 35 ball 40 runs knock. Rahane batted in his natural calm poise and was involved in two important stands for India. He started off with a 62 run stand for the 1st wicket and then combined with Virat Kohli for an another 66 run stand for the 2nd wicket.

Virat Kohli – 10/10:

Virat Kohli continued his great batting form and pummeled the West Indies bowler to hit an unbeaten 89 off just 47 balls knock and pilot India to a formidable 192/2 after 20 overs. He batted dominatingly and found boundaries regularly, piercing through the field placements of Darren Sammy. Later in the match, he was surprisingly handed the ball in the 14th over. And, as it happened, he stunned everyone with the wicket of Johnston Charles. MS Dhoni yet again tried his luck in the last over of the match when 8 runs were required to be defended for a win but he failed to defend those runs

MS Dhoni – 5/10:

MS Dhoni looked bit disillusioned by the onslaught from the West Indian. All his plans with the bowlers flat on its face. The bowlers let him down to a large extent and all he could do was stand helplessly behind the wicket. With the bat, he played a short useful cameo of 15 from 9 deliveries with Virat Kohli earlier in the evening.

Hardik Pandya – 1/10:

Hardik Pandya, who had done very well with the ball in the tournament, had a very bad outing today. He had shown his capability to bring breakthroughs earlier but could not replicate his previous performance as he shelled out 43 runs without any success in his four-over spell.

Ravindra Jadeja – 1/10:

Ravindra Jadeja was the most disappointing bowler today for India. He seemed to be bowling without any intent and was simply firing down ball wide at the batsman. The West Indian hard-hitters obviously took full advantage of his toothless bowling and clobbered him 48 runs in his 4 overs.

Ravichandran Ashwin – 3/10:

Ravichandran Ashwin was expected to be the trump card for India. But, today was simply not his day. He was used only for two overs by MS Dhoni and gave away 20 runs. Luck also played a big role in his failure today. He had taken the wicket of Lendl Simmons in the 7th over but the replays showed that the dismissal came off a no-ball. That wicket could have been the turning point for India but luck didn’t favor the Men in Blue.

Jasprit Bumrah – 3.5/10:

Jasprit Bumrah was also ineffective today. His only shining moment of the day was taking the wicket of Chris Gayle with his first delivery in his first over of the match. Otherwise, he did not do anything significant. He ended with dismal numbers of 1/42 in his four overs.

Ashish Nehra 7.5/10:

Ashish Nehra was the only bowler who was effective today. The old horse bowled exceptionally. The West Indians who were batting so strongly could get an upper hand over him. Nehra picked 1/24 in his four-over spell and returned to the pavilion being the most economical bowler of the day among both the teams.

Manish Pandey:

Manish Pandey replaced injured Yuvraj Singh in the playing XI but did not get any opportunity to bat today. He did not have much of a role to play except for manning the outfield.

Suresh Raina:

Suresh Raina also did not get the chance to bat. Given the way the West Indians were batting, he was also not used for his part off-breaks.
