India vs Australia, 3rd T20I: Teams share the trophy as the final game was called off
The series ended in a draw as both teams shared the trophy.
The final T20I of the series between India and Australia has been called off due to the wet outfield which took the beating of rains over the last week. Both the teams were raring to go out and win the series as the decider promised to be a cracker. There was no rain at match time and the pitch was also ready for the game. But with no sunshine throughout the day and in the lead up to the game meant the ground was always unfit to play.
Finally, Australia had something to show on this tour as they shared the trophy with the hosts but they would have loved to clinch it from them and own it. But a gruelling and fiercely contested ODI and T20I series has come to an end which saw the Men in Blue dominating from outset.
Steve Smith and his men had their moments but they could not seize onto it which cost them the One-Day International series. However, David Warner led T20I side did much better as they trounced India in the second match by eight wickets and were hardly given a chance to defend in a 6-over encounter in Ranchi.
Huge crowd left disappointed
Earlier in the evening, it was clear well before the toss that the match was going to be delayed as the groundsmen were giving their cent percent to dry out the ground. There were a lot of wet patches near the boundary line which increased the chances of injuries in case the players got stuck there. But after multiple inspections, the right decision was made by the umpires, match referee and the captains.
During the inspection, the umpires checked the outfield extremely carefully and things didn’t look good. But after the discussion with ground officials and the captains, they decided to wait for one more hour. However, when the time for the second inspection arrived, the winds started to take control and suddenly the ground staff covered the ground for precaution. There was also 47% chances of the rain which didn’t help the cause either.
The raucous and enthusiastic crowd of 29851 people kept their hopes right through in the anticipation for the game to start. But they were left highly disappointed when the abandonment was announced. They created Mexican waves as well and enjoyed the fielding drills and football warm-ups of both the teams.
Eventually, Virat Kohli and Warner shared the trophy and the Aussies will fly back home with two shared series’ on this tour to the subcontinent having levelled the Test series in 1-1 in Bangladesh before landing in India.
