Ahead of the second game of the ODI series at the Adelaide Oval, a picture of former India captain MS Dhoni playing some spin in the nets with Dinesh Karthik watching in the background surfaced on the internet on Monday. Dhoni who uses his feet a lot against the slower bowlers can be seen going down the track with his feet still rooted in the crease.

He does that far too often attempting to get to the pitch of the ball. A lot of times Dhoni even goes downtown just to block or play it for a single. While doing that he maintains a higher level of adaptability and awareness – in case the ball slips past him, the veteran is quick enough to get his bat or foot behind the line to avoid a stumping situation.

Dhoni who walked out to bat at number 5 in first ODI at the SCG with India struggling at four runs for the loss of three wickets scored a fifty off 96 deliveries chasing 289 to win. The former Indian captain took his time but stitched a crucial 137-run stand with Rohit Sharma to get the chase back on track before getting out owing to a poor LBW decision by the on-field umpire.

Eventually, India lost but seems like Dhoni is best suited at No. 4, that is what vice-captain Sharma said at the press conference. Some fans believe that Rachi lad can play an anchor role in the current Indian batting line-up while the finisher’s responsibility should be handed over to Ambati Rayudu or someone who bats at 6.

There were quite a few funny reactions to the picture with some describing Karthik as a selfless champion who was keeping for Dhoni even in the nets and that too with the gloves on. Others described it as a tuition lesson by latter to former on how to play spin at the Adelaide Oval.

Here’s the tweet and how netizens reacted to it:
