Australia have been dealt with a huge blow ahead of the second T20I and the five-match ODI series. Their fast bowler and the highest wicket-taker in the Big Bash League (BBL) Kane Richardson has been ruled out of the tour and is returning home due to a side injury. He was making a comeback into the national side and was hoping to stake a claim in the World Cup squad.

Richardson, according to cricket.com.au, sustained the injury while batting in the nets in Hyderabad last week ahead of the series opener. He also trained on Tuesday at the Chinnaswamy Stadium but after bowling a few deliveries, Richardson left and didn’t return.

“Kane reported some left side pain at training prior to the opening T20I in Vizag. Unfortunately, he has not recovered well enough in order to play a further part in the tour. Kane will return home to continue his rehabilitation, and we (will) monitor his progress over the coming weeks,” Australia team physio David Beakley said.

Andrew Tye to replace

Meanwhile, Kane Richardson will be replaced by Andrew Tye in the squad who was earlier not picked. Tye will now be hoping to make a resounding comeback in the side. He last played for Australia against England when the Brits had piled on 481 runs in an ODI. Tye had conceded 100 runs off his nine overs in that encounter and after that series, was dropped from the team.

Though he was decent during the BBL season this time around and went on to pick 17 wickets in 14 matches while playing for the Perth Scorchers.

Australia, at the moment, are gearing up for the second and final T20 International against India in Bengaluru. They are leading the two-match series by 1-0 and would be looking to win their maiden T20I series in the country.
