Australia have given India a run for their money in the ongoing ODI series even after losing the first two games. Not many would have backed the visitors to give India a tough challenge that too in their own backyard. However, the team from Down Under just showed why they are the reigning world champions by bouncing back and winning the third and fourth ODI to draw level in the five-match series.

And as the resurgent Australian team aim to win their first ODI series since the win over Pakistan at home in early 2017, they have received a major boost. Their star allrounder Marcus Stoinis, the reigning Australian ODI player of the year, has hit the nets. Stoinis had missed his team’s historic four-wicket win over India in Mohali where the tourists chased down an improbable target of 359 with 13 balls remaining to keep the series alive. Stoinis had suffered the untimely thumb injury while fielding in the third ODI.

He, however, looks set to play the series-decider in Delhi. Cricket Australia’s official Twitter handle posted a clip showing Stoinis having a hit in the nets and did not look in any kind of trouble whatsoever. Stoinis, who had top-scored with 52 in the second ODI, will be a huge boost for Australia who will be looking to make the most of their current momentum and get the better of the hosts.

Stoinis’ recovery a headache

While the sight of Stoinis batting comfortably in the nets will be a relief for the Australian team-management, it is also bound to give them a big headache when they sit down to pick the playing eleven for the series-decider. Ashton Turner had replaced Stoinis in the fourth game and had played a breathtaking match-winning knock. Turner had slammed an unbeaten 84 off just 43 balls to power Australia to their highest successful chase in ODIs.

In case, Stoinis is declared fit to play in Delhi, Australia will surely be in hot waters as they will find it extremely tough to make room for him.
