India vs Australia: Rohit Sharma's unorthodox shot leaves Virat Kohli in awe
The shot was so innovative that it left even the best in the business awestruck
The limited overs action between India and Australia continued with the ODI series beginning yesterday. Captain Aaron Finch won his third consecutive toss as Australia elected to bat first. In what was a difficult pitch for batting, the visitors settled for a modest total of 236/7. The likes of Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav got a couple of wickets each. Rohit Sharma played a cautious knock.
During his 66 ball stay at the crease, the opener could just score 37 runs. However, the 31-year-old did manage to play some atrocious shots. His astounding scoop off Jason Behrendorff resulted in a boundary. The shot was so innovative that it left even the best in the business awestruck.
Indian skipper Virat Kohli who was at the other end couldn’t stop admiring the same. He was seen sharing a smile after the vice-captain delivered the shot. Both put up a partnership of 76 runs for the second wicket after Shikhar Dhawan was dismissed cheaply. Kohli got out for 44, missing out on a potential half century yet again.
Here is the video of Rohit’s scoop that even left Kohli applauding:-
Rohit Sharma began the year with a century against Australia at the SCG. The 31-year-old also displayed some scintillating batting form against the Kiwis. He will be looking forward to replicating the same form in the ongoing series as well. Currently, at No.2 position in the ICC rankings for the best batsmen, Rohit has never averaged below 50 in a calendar year since 2013.
Earlier, Australia were reduced to 0/1 before Marcus Stoinis and Usman Khawaja’s 50 rescued them. Glenn Maxwell again looked to steer the game in Australia’s way before getting outdone by Shami. In the end, it was up to Alex Carey and Nathan Coulter-Nile to provide some fire in the end for the Aussies.
