India vs Bangladesh, 2019: List of records that Mayank Agarwal broke with his 243-run knock

Mayank Agarwal continued his glorious run in Test cricket as he notched up his highest Test score of 243 on Friday against Bangladesh. Resuming the 2nd day on 37, Mayank scored 206 more runs from only 249 deliveries. He took the attack to the Bangladesh bowlers sharing partnerships of 190 and 123 with Ajinkya Rahane and Ravindra Jadeja respectively. The Karnataka batsman finished with 243 from 330 balls smashing 28 fours and a record 8 maximums.

2 – Mayank Agarwal is only the 2nd Indian opener to score two double centuries in a calendar year. Virender Sehwag scored 319 against South Africa and 201 against Sri Lanka in 2008.

Mayank is also the 2nd Indian opener with multiple 200s in a home season. Vinoo Mankad struck 231 and 223 during the 1955/56 Test series against New Zealand.

2 – He is now only the 2nd Indian to bring up double century by hitting a six. The first player to achieve this feat was Rohit Sharma in India’s previous match against South Africa in Ranchi last month.

8 – Mayank struck 8 sixes during his double century; the joint-most number of sixes hit by an Indian in a Test inning. Mayank, in this process, equalled the record held by Navjot Singh Sidhu who hit 8 sixes during his 128-run knock against Sri Lanka in the 1993 Chandigarh Test.

8 – Number of Test matches Mayank needed to score his 2nd double century; the 3rd fewest by any player. India’s Vinod Kambli scored his 2nd double ton as early as 4th Test while Sir Donald Bradman did it in 7 Test matches.

12 – In terms of innings taken for 2nd Test double ton, Agarwal stands at 2nd position behind Vinod Kambli (5). Donald Bradman played 13 innings for the 2nd Test double while the new Indian opener needed only 12 innings.

160 – Mayank aggregated 160 runs during his 243-run knock through boundaries. Only five times an Indian batsman scored more runs in a Test innings through boundaries. These are also the most by an Indian since the start of 2010.

206 – Agarwal’s 206 runs on day 2 are the joint 5th most by an individual for India in a single day’s play in Test cricket. He is also the 2nd Indian opener to amass 200+ runs in a day’s play. Virender Sehwag alone recorded three such instances.

243 – Mayank’s 243-run knock is now the 2nd highest individual score for India against Bangladesh in Test cricket. The highest is 248* by Sachin Tendulkar during the 2004 Dhaka Test.

243 – Mayank Agarwal’s 243 is now the 5th highest individual score by an Indian in Test cricket. All the top four entries in the list are on the name of Virender Sehwag.
