India vs Bangladesh: Virat Kohli gestures crowd to cheer for Mohammed Shami and not him
Shami was in the middle of a dream spell in Indore.
India and Bangladesh are currently playing the first Test of the two-match series in Indore. The visitors won the toss and opted to bat first only to get bowled out for a meagre score of 150. Mohammed Shami triggered a sensational collapse with his bowling which thrilled the spectators at the stadium. Even the Indian skipper Virat Kohli was pumped during his game-changing spell and urged the crowd to cheer for Shami and not him.
After opting to bat first, Bangladesh lost both their openers early after which Mominul Haque and Mushfiqur Rahim stitched a partnership. But the runs started to come fast when Liton Das came out to bat and the sixth-wicket stand between him and Rahim was flourishing. This is when Mohammed Shami set the veteran up nicely and castled him with a brute of a delivery.
Shami bowled away going deliveries to start the over with and suddenly brought the ball back to the batsman. Rahim wasn’t expecting and was late in getting his bat down. But by then, the damage was done and he had to walk back to the pavilion. Looking at the wicket, Virat Kohli was excited too even as the crowd started to chant his name. However, Kohli wonderfully gestured them to cheer for Mohammed Shami who was bowling like a dream in his spell.

Earlier in the day, Bangladesh would’ve hoped to score some runs after winning the toss. But the Indian pacers didn’t allow them to get going at all and kept chipping in with wickets at regular intervals. Only the visitors’ skipper Mominul Haque and Mushfiqur Rahim resisted for a bit but once their 68-run partnership was broken, it was all one-way.
While Mohammed Shami ended up with three wickets to his name, the likes of Ishant Sharma, Ravi Ashwin and Umesh Yadav picked a couple of wickets each to rattle Bangladesh for just 150 runs. India have responded strongly despite losing Rohit Sharma early.
