India vs Bangladesh: Wriddhiman Saha on the hinges of breaking MS Dhoni's record
India and Wridhiman Saha will be in action again in Indore where they take on Bangladesh on November 14.
Team India will lock horns with Bangladesh in the first of the two-Test matches at the Holkar Stadium in Indore on November 14th. The series will mark the first time the Asian Tigers will square-off in a full-fledged Test series against the Men in Blue on Indian soil. Back in 2017, Bangladesh had toured India for a one-off Test which was played in Hyderabad.
And, just like a plethora of Indian cricketers like captain Virat Kohli who is just 147 runs away from becoming the sixth-highest run-scorer for the country or Ravichandran Ashwin who is one wicket away from becoming the third Indian bowler to claim 250 wickets on home soil, wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha has a chance to break MS Dhoni’s record of most dismissals affected by a wicketkeeper in India vs Bangladesh Tests.
Wriddhiman Saha on the cusp of breaking MS Dhoni’s record
Saha, who made a successful comeback to the Indian side following a long layoff due to injury has seven dismissals to his name in two Test matches while MS Dhoni- the current record-holder- has fifteen dismissals to his name in three Test matches. Second on the list is another Indian wicketkeeper, Dinesh Karthik, who has affected twelve dismissals while Bangladesh’s Mushfiqur Rahim sits at third place with eleven dismissals.
However, with Mushfiqur Rahim set to relinquish his gloves in a bid to prolong his international career, it is only Saha who is in contention as far as leapfrogging MS Dhoni from the numero-uno spot is concerned. Saha made a successful comeback into the Indian set-up after a long injury layoff and proved his worth immediately by taking outstanding catches behind the stumps; the one-off Theunis de Bruyn being the standout, so-much-so that Virat Kohli had even hailed him as the best wicketkeeper in the world.
Speaking on that catch, Saha in a recent interview to Hindustan Times had said “It was a good catch. And this is definitely a great phase. I really appreciate whatever Virat has said about me. I made a comeback, we won the series 3-0 and now I’m expecting a second child (due next year).”
