The first Test match of the 4-match Test series between India and England looks set for an interesting finish. The Indian team had scored 39 runs at the loss of 1 wicket till the end of the fourth day’s play chasing a big target of 420 runs in the fourth innings. Indian opener Rohit Sharma got out cheaply once again in the second innings scoring 12 runs off 20 balls. Shubhman Gill and Cheteshwar Pujara are unbeaten at the crease having added 14 runs for the second wicket.
Earlier in the day, India were bowled out for 337 runs in their first innings. England decided to bat again despite having sufficient lead to enforce a follow-on. England got all-out for the score of 178 runs in their second innings. Ravichandran Ashwin performed brilliantly with the ball for India in the second innings picking up 6 wickets for 61 runs.

The second biggest lead for a visiting team since 2010
241 – England took a big lead of 241 runs in the first innings of this match. This is the second biggest lead conceded by India at home since 2010. In 2010, the South African team had taken a lead of 325 runs against India in the Nagpur Test. They eventually won this match by an innings and 6 runs.
Milestones for Washington Sundar
8 – Sundar has now become the 8th Indian player to score over 50 runs in debut innings both at home and away. Sundar had played an important knock of 64 runs against Australia in his debut Test played at Brisbane. The other seven Indian players to achieve this feat include Rusi Modi, Surinder Amarnath, Arun Lal, Sourav Ganguly, Suresh Raina, Hardik Pandya, and Mayank Agarwal.
2 – Washington Sundar has reached the second spot in the list of Indian players to score most runs in first three innings of their Test career at number-7. Sundar has scored a total of 169 runs in his first three Test innings till now including two fifties. Rahul Dravid with 179 runs in his first three innings playing at number-7 is currently at the top spot.
4 – Washington Sundar registered the fourth-highest score by an Indian player at Chepauk batting at number-7.
New Landmark for Ishant Sharma
300 – Ishant Sharma completed his 300 Test wickets in this match. He has become the third Indian pacer to achieve this feat after Kapil Dev and Zaheer Khan.
6 – Ishant is the sixth Indian overall to take 300 wickets in Test cricket. Anil Kumble with 619 wickets is the highest wicket-taker for India in Test cricket.
Ravi Ashwin’s massive feat
3 – Ravichandran Ashwin became just the third spinner to take a wicket off the very first ball of an innings in Test cricket. He is the first spinner to achieve this milestone in over 100 years.
28- Ashwin took a 28th five-wicket haul of his Test career in the second innings of the match. He is second on the list of Indian bowlers with the most 5-wicket hauls in Test Cricket. He is on the fourth spot among the list of bowlers to take the most 5-wicket hauls at home in Test Cricket.
