India vs England, 2021: 2nd Test, Day 4: India’s biggest win against England, Milestones for captain Kohli, Moeen Ali misses fastest fifty and more stats

India have demolished England in the second Test of the four-match series being played at Chepauk. With this victory, the hosts have now levelled up the series by 1-1. The visitors continued their batting from the third day’s score of 55/3 in the second innings but failed miserably to show any fight. They were bowled out for 164 runs losing the Test by a big margin of 317 runs.

Axar Patel picked up a fifer on his debut taking 5 wickets for 60 runs in 21 overs. Ravichandran Ashwin took 3 wickets while Kuldeep Yadav got two wickets. Ashwin was adjudged player of the match for his all-round performance. The third Test of the series will be played from 24th February at Sardar Patel Stadium, Ahmedabad.

India advances to the second spot in WTC

2 – Indian team has now reached the second position in World Test Championship points table with 69.7 percentage points. New Zealand have already qualified with 70 percent points while England have dropped down to the fourth position with 67 percent points to their name. India needs to win this series by a margin of 3-1 or 2-1 to reach final of WTC.

Biggest win for India against England

5 – This was the fifth biggest win for India (by runs) in a Tests, with the highest margin of victory being 337 runs vs South Africa. Against England, this is the host team’s biggest win by runs.  

Importance of Toss in India

16 – Since 2013, India haven’t lost a single Test at home after winning the toss. Among the 18 matches, India have won 16 while 2 ended up in a draw.

Axar gets fifer on debut

9 –  Axar Patel became the ninth Indian player to pick a fifer on Test debut. Among spinners, he is the sixth Indian cricketer to achieve this feat. He also registered the fifth-best bowling figure in a Test debut among Indian spinners.

Milestones for captain Kohli

21 – This was 21st win for India in home Tests under Virat Kohli’s captaincy. He has now equalled MS Dhoni in this regard.

53-  Virat Kohli won his 53rd International match for India as captain, and has now equalled Mohammed Azharuddin among Indian captains with most wins at home across formats. MS Dhoni with 74 wins is at the top spot.

Ashwin gets better of Stokes yet again

10 – Ravichandran Ashwin dismissed Ben Stokes for the 10th time in Test cricket, the most any bowler has taken Stokes’ wicket in the longest format. Among the batsmen cleaned up by Ashwin most times in Tests, Ben Stokes is at the top spot along with Australia’s David Warner.

End of Root’s fairytale in Asia 

1 – This was the first loss for Joe Root as a captain in Asia. He had earlier led England to six consecutive wins in Asia.

India’s great record at Chepauk

15 – India have registered their most Test wins (15) at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. They have won 13 matches each at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi and Eden Gardens, Kolkata.

Moeen Ali misses fastest fifty record

21- Moeen Ali blasted 43 runs off 18 balls in the second innings for England. He was on his way to register the fastest Test fifty which is held by Misbah-ul-Haq (21 balls) but got out before that.

238.88 – Moeen Ali played his explosive knock at a strike-rate of 238.88. This is the second-highest strike-rate in a Test innings with a minimum of 40 runs. Number 1 spot in this regard belongs to Abdur Razzak of Bangladesh who hit 43 runs off 17 balls against Zimbabwe in 2011 with a strike-rate of 252.94.
