Dominic Bess, without a shred of a doubt, was England’s star performer on the third day of the ongoing Test against India at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. After Jofra Archer made the early strikes, picking up the wickets of Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill, it was Bess, who put pressure on the star-studded Indian batting. The 23-year-old picked up four wickets.

Among them was the wicket of Rishabh Pant, who was staging a comeback for Team India as he scored 91 runs off 88 balls with nine fours and five sixes. Amidst the decent show with the ball in hand, Bess found himself into a tangle and it happened after the day’s play at the Chepauk.

When he was giving an interview, the advertisement board, from behind, fell on him. He was taken by a bit of surprise. Thereafter, personnel in charge of the interview adjusted the board and placed it properly.

Butcher impressed with Dominic Bess

In the meantime, former England cricketer Mark Butcher heaped praises on Bess. The veteran was impressed with how the tweaker got the prized wicket of Virat Kohli, the Indian captain. Bess tossed the ball up and Kohli presses forward to push the ball away.

However, he ended up getting an inside-edge and Ollie Pope, who stood at the short leg region, took a sharp catch. Butcher was of the opinion that Bess is a quick learner, but also mentioned that he’s got some distance to travel.

“The ball just drifted in to him and turned a little bit too. Keeping Kohli quiet was key and eventually, he got one to drift a little bit. Kohli just got opened up by that drift, there was a bit of bounce and Ollie Pope did the rest,” Butcher was quoted as saying on Star Sports.

“What a wonderful moment there for Dom Bess. He continues to get better. Dom Bess has got something about him. He’s got that fire in him. He learns quickly, he’s by no means a finished article but he always makes one or two things happen. He at times gets a bit lucky too. He gets wickets with average deliveries as well,” he added.
