England opener Rory Burns has lashed out at England women team’s player Alexandra Hartley for her distasteful tweet following England’s loss to India in the third Test. And his tweet was liked by his teammates Ben Stokes and James Anderson. Hartley’s tweet came moments after India thrashed England by ten wickets inside two days at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.

On a pitch that assisted spinners right from the start, England’s batsmen looked completely clueless. Joe Root won a good toss but he and his teammates failed to make the most of it. The visitors could only manage 112 runs in their first innings. They, however, did well to bowl out India for just 145 and claw their way back into the game.

But the Joe Root-led side failed to make the most of the momentum as they came up with yet another horrific display with the bat in the second innings. Axar Patel and Ravichandran Ashwin ran riot, taking 5 and 4 wickets respectively to bowl out the beleaguered visitors for a paltry 81. Set a target of 49, India reached home inside eight overs without losing any wicket.

Ben Stokes, James Anderson like tweet but Rory Burns deletes it

As soon as the action came to an end in Ahmedabad, Alexandra Hartley took to Twitter to react to the match, and going by the reactions her tweet is attracting, one can say that it has not gone down well with many.

Following England’s humiliating defeat, Hartley stuck the boot in with a brutal joke on the social media platform, tweeting, “Nice of the England boys to get this Test match finished just before England Women play tonight.”

And it did not take Rory Burns long to criticise Hartley for her tweet. The southpaw, who was dropped for the third Test, expressed his disappointment at the comment from Hartley. Criticising Hartley’s attitude, Burns tweeted: “Very disappointing attitude considering all the ‘boys’ do to support the women’s game.”

And his tweet was quickly liked by England superstars Stokes and Anderson. The duo, however, has not commented on Hartley’s tweet yet.

Burns, on the other hand, went on to delete the tweet. Several other England cricketers like Ben Duckett and Samit Patel also took shots at Hartley for her tweet.
