Over the years, one has seen action being interrupted on the cricket field by several factors. Not only natural factors like rain or even sun, but other factors like fans or animals invading the pitch have stopped action on the field in the past. But none of the reasons were as bizarre as the one that halted the action for few minutes during the ongoing fourth Test between India and England at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.
The play had to be stopped for a while after the bails went missing. The incident took place on the very first day of the match. Ollie Pope played a shot at the short mid-wicket position where skipper Virat Kohli picked the ball up and threw it to Rishabh Pant. The India wicketkeeper failed to collect the ball cleanly before the drama unfolded.
The umpires noticed that the bails were missing and started searching for it. The players soon joined the party as the baffled officials and India stars looked all around for the bails. Kohli went as far as searching Pant’s pads while the youngster was standing with his arms wide open. Kohli could not find the bails and gave up the search before Pant decided to end the drama.
He walked up to Rohit Sharma and showed that the bails were stuck in his gloves, leaving his teammates in splits. The way things unfolded, it was more or less clear that it was not intentional from Pant. Before Pant showed the bails to Rohit, the third umpire had also intervened and told the on-field umpire that bails were stuck in the wicketkeeper’s gloves.

India in a strong position
Talking about the game, India have put themselves in a strong position after recovering from an early collapse. After bowling out England for just 205, India were reeling at 146 for 6 before Rishabh Pant and Washington Sundar’s 113-run stand bailed them out of trouble. The partnership came to an end when James Anderson dismissed Pant for 101. However, the lead of more than 150 has put India in the ascendancy.
