India vs England: Twitter unimpressed with Virat Kohli for not picking Suryakumar Yadav in 2nd ODI
Suryakumar Yadav was expected to replace Shreyas Iyer in the team for the second ODI.
India skipper Virat Kohli is once again facing the heat for his team-selection after Suryakumar Yadav did not get a chance in the playing XI for the ongoing second ODI against England. The right-handed batsman was expected to make his ODI debut in this game after a shoulder injury ruled Shreyas Iyer out of the series.
Iyer is currently sidelined with a shoulder injury that he had sustained while fielding in the first ODI earlier this week. Fielding at extra cover, he fell awkwardly on his left shoulder while intercepting a drive from Jonny Bairstow in the eighth over of the England innings. He was seen grimacing in pain while holding his shoulder and walked off the field immediately.
The Mumbai star is also set to undergo surgery on his left shoulder. Iyer will not only miss the remainder of the ongoing ODI series but is also likely to miss the entire edition of the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL). And in his absence, Suryakumar Yadav was expected to be a part of India’s middle-order at least for the second ODI.
Surya made his T20I debut earlier this month and hit the ground running in international cricket. On his first outing with the bat in international cricket, he slammed 57 off just 31 deliveries to help India clinch a series-levelling win. In the next outing, he played a quickfire knock of 32 to help the Men in Blue win the five-match series.
Virat Kohli faces heat for snubbing Suryakumar Yadav
His impressive performance in T20Is saw him earn his maiden ODI call-up for the ongoing series. As expected, he warmed the bench in the first ODI as the likes of KL Rahul and Iyer were preferred in the middle-order. However, he was widely backed to make his ODI debut today in Iyer’s absence. But Kohli and the team-management decided against it.
Instead of picking Suryakumar, Rishabh Pant has been recalled to the XI. And the fans are not really impressed with the decision. As soon as Kohli announced Iyer’s replacement at the toss, the fans took to Twitter to slam him.
