India (IND) and New Zealand (NZ) have played out some memorable matches across formats in the past. Some of those games are the final of the Champions Trophy (CT) way back in the year 2000, the semi-final of the 2019 World Cup, and the inaugural final of the World Test Championship (WTC) held last year in England. The Men in Blue and the BlackCaps have always played in the right spirit of the game and have given the equal fight to each other in all the encounters.
Interestingly, the Kiwis have won only two major trophies in their cricketing history and both of them came by defeating India in the summit clashes. Chris Cairns-inspired New Zealand side got over the line against the Asian giants in the CT final in 2000 when the right-handed all-rounder smashed a magnificent unbeaten century to reach the target of 265 for his side in Nairobi. With that, Stephen Fleming and his Kiwis team clinched their first major title.
In 2021, Kane Williamson led the BlackCaps to another famous and historic title in form of the inaugural WTC final. Team India got beaten by eight wickets in Southampton as tall seam bowler Kyle Jamieson grabbed seven wickets in the match to seal the second significant title for New Zealand. For India and its fans, it was heartbreak in 2019 when MS Dhoni just fell short by 18 runs to win the WC semi-final clash. The Kiwis have always provided stiff competition to India, especially in multi-team tournaments.
Speaking of the bilateral series, both sides will face each other in a three-match ODI and three-match T20I series beginning with the 50-overs format on Wednesday, January 18, 2023. The first One-Day international takes place in Hyderabad followed by the second and third games on the 21st and 24th in Raipur and Indore respectively. The T20 internationals will commence from the 27th in Ranchi followed by the final two matches on the 29th and 01st February in Lucknow and Ahmedabad respectively.
The fans will be keenly following the India vs New Zealand live score during the series as it is expected to be a close affair.
