South Africa is ready to lock their horns against India on its soil. If we go through the formidable line up of the squads, India will always have an upper edge over the visitors but the way Proteas have performed in the limited over format, they can be a mere danger for the Indian team and can give a loss of points in the ICC Test Championship to the current league toppers.
On one side, teams are preparing for the 1st Test match which is going to start from Wednesday in Vishakhapatnam, and on the other hand, Proteas Test team skipper Faf du Plessis has come out with some statements supporting his bowlers and what will be their strategy against the hosts.
‘Keshav Maharaj as good as any spinner in the world’
In the pre-match press conference, while speaking to the media, Proteas skipper told that they can put Indian batsmen in difficult situation with the help of their young spinner Keshav Maharaj who is as good as any spinner around the world, “In the past series, we have seen that the ball spun quite a bit. I think the bowler that we have in Maharaj at the moment is probably just as good as any spinner around the world. So, he will be a challenge for the Indian batters if the deck were to spin quite a bit.”
As per Du Plessis, spin is not the only department where they will rely upon but will try to test the Indian batting line up with the extra pace of their bowlers, “We also have the pace but it is about making sure you have the accurate pace. For the ball to reverse swing, you need a dry surface and pitches. We can use the dry pitches to our advantage as we have few bowlers who can bowl 140-150 kph+ and that’s where reverse swing becomes the real weapon,” he added.
He recalled the exceptional bowling done by Dale Steyn in Indian conditions and the reverse swing that he used to get from the wicket in India, but now in place of Steyn they have Kagiso Rabada but whether he will get that swing or not is important to watch.
