After winning three consecutive T20I series at home against New Zealand, West Indies and Sri Lanka respectively post the 2021 T20 World Cup, India would be eyeing a fourth successive bilateral series win in the shortest format as they take on South Africa in a five-match series starting June 9.
While South Africa do not have anything to boast of late as far as their T20I performances are concerned, they can take heart from the fact that they had leveled a three-match series 2-1 during their last visit to the country in September-October 2019. The last time the Proteas had won a T20I series on Indian soil was in 2015.
Meanwhile, India have decided to rest key players such as skipper Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah and Rishabh Pant while a few players who showcased consistent performances in the IPL 2022 have got a chance, with Umran Malik, Arshdeep Singh earning their maiden call-ups. Veteran stumper Dinesh Karthik has made a comeback after three years while Hardik Pandya has also returned after being out of the international setup due to a back injury.
As far as the visitors are concerned, the promising youngster Tristan Stubbs has got a maiden national call-up while pacer Anrich Nortje is set to play his first international game after the 2021 T20 World Cup. Veteran left-arm pacer Wayne Parnell has also been included for the upcoming tour. All their key players who featured in the ongoing IPL 2022 will be an integral part of this five-match series.
