India vs South Africa: Virat Kohli's reaction to David Miller's sensational catch in Mohali
Dhawan scored 40 before being undone by Miller's brilliance.
David Miller’s sensational catch to dismiss Shikhar Dhawan in the second T20I between India and South Africa was one of the few positives for the visitors in the game. The game was steadily slipping out of South Africa’s clutches when David Miller’s unbelievable diving catch turned the match on its head. Miller’s effort is undoubtedly one of the best the game has ever witnessed.
It was the 12th over of the innings when Tabraiz Shamsi was bowling to Dhawan who was batting on 40. Dhawan came down the track and hit the delivery towards long-on and had connected with the ball well. The ball was looking destined to cross the boundary ropes but Miller had some other plans. The South Africa star came running in from left and dived full-fledged to pluck the ball in mid-air.
Miller held the ball by just one hand to end the 61-run stand between Dhawan and Virat Kohli. As soon as the Proteas star took the catch, Kohli and Dhawan came up with contrasting reactions. While Dhawan only sported a wry smile on his face, Kohli’s reaction pretty much summed up the catch. The India skipper just stared in amazement as he rarely believed what just happened on the field.
Here is a clip showing the reaction from Virat Kohli:
India make light work of South Africa:
David Miller’s timely catch, nonetheless, did not really make much of a difference as India thrashed the Proteas by seven wickets. With the win, India took an unassailable 1-0 lead in three-match series. The series-opener in Dharamsala was abandoned without a ball being bowled due to heavy rain. Chasing 149 for 5, India reached home by losing just three wickets with one over remaining.
Virat Kohli was the star of the match, scoring an unbeaten 72 to take his side home. In the process, the India skipper also became the leading run-scorer in the T20Is. Deepak Chahar impressed with the ball, picking up 2 for 22 from his quota of four overs. Meanwhile, Dhawan was all praise for Miller’s catch after the match ended.
“It was an unbelievable catch and Virat was thinking that as well. I was smiling and appreciated his effort. It was hit hard, it wasn’t lofted, it was hit flat and I took it in my stride,” said Dhawan.
