The loss in the second T20I must have come as a harsh shock for Team India but it wasn’t something that was unexpected. It wouldn’t be an understatement to say that Virat Kohli and his men have had troubles while batting first. Out of the last nine occasions when they fielded second, the team ended up losing six times. More than an issue with the bowling, these results have exposed the loopholes in the batting attack.
Oftentimes, the batsmen try to start slow and go too hard in the middle overs. In the process, the side ends up losing quite a few wickets. And the way the shuffled around with the batting order in the last game didn’t allow them to make full use of the potential of all their batsmen. That is something to ponder upon, especially when you’ve got an opposition as dynamic as the West Indies. Fielding is another aspect which India will have to improve upon in this match.
The Caribbean team has played some excellent cricket on this tour. Bowling was a downside in the Hyderabad game but they did bounce back handsomely. Kieron Pollard has looked good with his captaincy. Yet, there are a few issues to be addressed by them. With the auto no-ball, there is absolutely no chance of getting away whatsoever.
That is one area apart from the other form of extras they’ll have to work upon. When things boil down to the end in series deciders like these, these things matter the most. With players from both the sides having enough experience of playing at the Wankhede, it should be a cracker of a contest.
Pitch and Conditions
At this point in time, the pitches in India seem quite fresh. The ball is usually coming onto the bat nicely. The Mumbai track is expected to be a good one and should definitely be quicker than the one at Thiruvananthapuram. Weather prediction is good for this match and the humidity levels will be high as usual.
Team Combinations
India
India is most likely to go ahead with the same eleven for this game as well. Being a decider, they wouldn’t want to experiment at this stage. However, the management should look to send Shreyas Iyer ahead of Rishabh Pant rather than trying to put the wicket-keeper batsman in a comfort zone. There is a probability that Kuldeep Yadav could replace one of Washington Sundar or Ravindra Jadeja. Mohammed Shami might have to warm the bench in this game as well.
Predicted XI: Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Virat Kohli (C), Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant (WK), Shivam Dube, Washington Sundar/Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, Deepak Chahar, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Yuzvendra Chahal.
West Indies
West Indies will also like to maintain the consistency with the eleven. They have got some brilliant hitters in their line-up tailor-made for this formant. With Nicholas Pooran back in the side, they look much stronger now. The bowlers will have to get their act together once again and should look to perform consistently. As mentioned earlier, they should try and concede fewer extras in this match.
Predicted XI: Lendl Simmons, Evin Lewis, Brandon King, Shimron Hetmyer, Nicolas Pooran (WK), Kieron Pollard (C), Jason Holder, Khary Pierre, Kesrick Williams, Hayden Walsh, Sheldon Cottrell.
