India are scheduled to host West Indies soon after the historic Day-Night Test against Bangladesh concludes. The Caribbean side will visit the country to play 3 T20Is and as many One-Day Internationals. And the selection panel led by MSK Prasad has picked the squads for both the series. While the T20I series is set to commence on December 6, India will play the ODIs for the first time since August with the series to start on December 15.
Virat Kohli has returned to the T20Is while the selectors have refrained from resting Rohit Sharma as well. India’s limited-overs vice-captain is part of both ODI and T20I squads even as Shikhar Dhawan, who got injured during the game against Maharashtra in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy today, has also managed to retain his place in both the sides.
Meanwhile, Shivam Dube and Deepak Chahar have been called up to the ODI squad with Bhuvneshwar Kumar also making his comeback.
Samson dropped without playing from India T20I squad
Sanju Samson has been unfortunate to miss out from the T20I squad even as the selectors have decided to leave out Krunal Pandya. Ravindra Jadeja who was left out for the Bangladesh series, has been included again in the shortest format. The wrist spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal both are back though after not playing together since the World Cup.
While Chahal made a comeback to the side in the previous series and performed extremely well, Kuldeep will hope to make this chance count now. Interestingly, the selectors have also given Mohammed Shami another chance to revive his T20I career after looking at the way he’s been bowling in the Tests. Khaleel Ahmed has been left out after an extremely poor show against Bangladesh. Even Shardul Thakur, like Samson, has been dropped without even playing a match.
India’s ODI squad: Virat Kohli (C), Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, Manish Pandey, Kedar Jadhav, Shreyas Iyer, Ravindra Jadeja, Shivam Dube, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Deepak Chahar, Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
