India vs Windies: BCCI announces 15-man squad for the last three ODIs
India are leading the series by 1-0.
India and Windies are engaged in a high-scoring five-match ODI series at the moment. Both the teams have scored more than 300 runs in two matches so far and clearly, the Caribbean side has surprised everyone including the hosts with the fight they’ve put up. India’s lacklustre bowling effort in the first couple of matches has forced the selectors to bring back Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah for the remainder of the series.
Mohammed Shami’s return to the 50-over format proves to be a short stint as he has been dropped from the team after two expensive outings. However, it could be argued that he bowled much better than Umesh Yadav who leaked runs in Vizag the other day. The rest of the squad is the same even as Kedar Jadhav proved his match fitness by playing in the Deodhar Trophy for India A.
Under-strength bowling attack leak runs
The likes of Khaleel Ahmed, Umesh and Shami failed to impress in the absence of the preferred pacers. India comfortably conceded more than 600 runs combined in both the ODIs. Bhuvneshwar and Bumrah returning to the team will make the team extremely strong and the visitors will have to play their A game to continue cornering the Men in Blue in their own den.
It also remains to be seen if the likes of KL Rahul and Manish Pandey are given a go in any of the matches with the series well and truly alive. With a tie, Windies have made sure that they can at least level the five-match series and they’ve definitely improved their game compared to the Test series.
While Jason Holder is yet to give his best, Shimron Hetmyer and Shai Hope have risen through the ranks with the bat and the bowlers have just managed to keep the opposition under the lid albeit not consistently.
India squad for last three ODIs: Virat Kohli (C), Rohit Sharma (VC), Shikhar Dhawan, Ambati Rayudu, MS Dhoni (wk), Rishabh Pant, Ravindra Jadeja, Umesh Yadav, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah, Khaleel Ahmed, Manish Pandey, KL Rahul
