India are currently locking horns with the Windies in a five-match ODI series and the leading 1-0 after a couple of matches. Virat Kohli’s men were dominant in the Test series and clean-swept their opponents. In the first ODI, they won courtesy of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s twin centuries but managed to eke out a tie in the second encounter in Visakhapatnam.
In the meantime, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a 16-man squad for the T20I series, which gets underway on November 4 at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Lucknow and Chennai are the other two venues for the series. Rohit Sharma is set to lead the team and Virat Kohli, their regular all-format captain, has been rested.
No Dhoni in the squad
Sharma recently led the team to glory in the Asia Cup and he would dearly want to continue his impressive run of form. The massive development comes in the form of MS Dhoni’s exclusion and in his absence, Rishabh Pant will don the wicketkeeping gloves. In the meantime, all-rounder Krunal Pandya and spinner Shahbaz Nadeem got their maiden T20I call-ups.
Washington Sundar suffered from an injury ever since India’s series against India and he is also set to make a comeback. Khaleel Ahmed has been duly rewarded after he performed well in the limited opportunities he has got in the 50-overs format.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Umesh Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah are the fast bowlers along with the spin duo of Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal. The series is also an opportunity for Shreyas Iyer and Manish Pandey to show their mettle in the T20 format.
Here is the squad
Rohit Sharma (C), Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul, Dinesh Karthik, Manish Pandey, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant (wk), Krunal Pandya, Washington Sundar, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah, Khaleel Ahmed, Umesh Yadav, Shahbaz Nadeem
