The Windies are set to play the first of two-match Test series against India at Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot, starting October 4. The second Test is scheduled to be played from October 12 at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. Last time around in 2013, when the Windies toured India, they were beaten in both the Tests.
To be precise, the visiting team last won a Test match on Indian soil way back in 1994. Moreover, they only have emerged victorious in three Tests in India and hence, they need to play out of their skins in order to roll over Virat Kohli’s men. In the meantime, Jason Holder, the Windies’ captain, reckons leg-break Devendra Bishoo can be a match-winner for them.
“He [Bishoo] has been around for a while and doing well. The conditions could favour him a bit more here. We expect him to come into play in this series and be a match-winner,” Jason Holder was quoted as saying in Sportstar.
Not so impressive year for Bishoo thus far
Bishoo was a part of the national team’s squad which played three Tests in India back in 2011. In three matches, the tweaker could only manage seven wickets at a horrendous average of 62.28. His best bowling figures of 2/55 came in the first innings of the opening Test at Feroz Shah Kotla in New Delhi, which India comprehensively won by five wickets.
In the ongoing year, Bishoo has donned the national colours in four Tests in which he could only churn out four wickets three of which came in the second innings of the first match against Sri Lanka at Port of Spain. In home conditions, while the fast bowlers did a chunk of the work, the Guyana-born bowler didn’t get many opportunities to show his prowess with the leather.
