In the first ODI against the Windies, Team India would’ve been stunned by the visitors’ batting performance. Skipper Virat Kohli put the opposition into bat first after winning the toss. They responded with a massive 322 runs on the board which was quite unexpected. In the chase, India suffered a big blow by losing Shikhar Dhawan early in the innings. However, the captain along with Rohit Sharma took complete control of the things.
Once they got into their element, the duo was bossing around and completely dominating the bowlers. It was Kohli who was playing the aggressor. Thus the otherwise dashing Rohit Sharma was restricted to being a spectator at the other end early in the innings as he witnessed Kohli’s brilliance. In the middle of a Kohli show, Rohit with his own elegance played a splendid flick.
That flick had class written all over it
It was in the ninth over of the innings and Windies pacer Kemar Roach was the bowler. Kohli took a single off the first ball of the over and gave the strike over to his partner. Rohit then played three consecutive dot ball and it seemed as if the pressure was building on his. On the fifth ball of the over, Roach bowled a fuller delivery which was angled towards the middle and the off-stump.
Usually, batsmen would try and push the ball forward or at most lift it straight over the mid-on fielder. But, such is the class of the Indian deputy captain that he effortlessly flicked it towards the fine leg and the deep square leg region. It was just sheer timing and the ball almost carried all the way for a six. It fell just short of the boundary and bounced once before going into the ropes.
Kohli’s reaction was the highlight when Rohit played this shot. He watched the ball keenly and went ‘wow’ as it reached the boundary.
Here is the video of the shot:
