Indian opener Rohit Sharma might be a discard in Tests but his string of high scores in ODIs shows that he is making it up by batting in the 50-over format itself. The dashing right-handed batsman slammed his 20th century in the ODIs against the Windies in Guwahati on Sunday and of these 20, six are 150-plus scores – something nobody else has achieved before the 31-year-old Rohit.
With his 152 not out off 117 balls against the Caribbeans, Rohit bettered the record of the great Sachin Tendulkar who has five 150-plus scores in the ODIs. The former, however, has converted three of those six 150-plus scores into double hundreds while Tendulkar could convert only one.
The six 150-plus scores that Rohit, one of the most prolific scorers in the limited-overs in world cricket, have hit so far include: 264 (vs Sri Lanka in 2014); 209 (vs Australia in 2013); 208 not out (vs Lanka in 2017); 171 not out (vs Australia in 2016); 152 not out (vs Windies in 2018) and 150 (vs South Africa in 2015). Of these, the unbeaten 171 against Australia came abroad. Not many batsmen have managed such an amazing feat even in the longer version.
Sehwag praises Rohit and Virat
Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag, who was as murderous with the bat as Rohit, lauded the latter on Twitter by mentioning his “tremendous achievement” of scoring six 150-plus scores. Sehwag himself has two 150-plus scores in ODIs and one of them is a double hundred which he scored against the Windies in Indore in 2011.
Double Dhamaka. Kohli and Rohit made it look very easy. Congratulations @ImRo45 on your 6th 150+ score, the first man to do so. Tremendous achievement. #IndvWI
