India vs Windies: Washington Sundar and Shreyas Iyer likely to play Chennai T20I
The Indian team will arrive in the city a day before the match.
India have been clinical in the T20I series against Windies and have already won the first two matches in Kolkata and Lucknow to emerge victorious in the series. At Eden Gardens, Rohit Sharma’s men were given a run for their money, but they prevailed and got home by five wickets. The second encounter turned out to be a one-sided affair as the Men in Blue won by 71 runs.
Indian interim skipper Rohit’s fourth T20I century put the Caribbean team on the mat and helped the hosts to a set a target, which eventually turned out to be a far cry for Carlos Brathwaite’s men. The third and final encounter is set to be played on Sunday, November 11 at M.A Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The match is a dead rubber, but India would want a clean sweep.
The pitch at the venue is expected to be batting-friendly and both teams have the opportunity to cash in. “The track will behave true and both the Indian and West Indies batsmen can score big if they apply themselves,” an official was quoted as saying in The Times of India (TOI).
Fringe players to be drafted in
It has also been learned that the Indian team will arrive in Chennai a day before the match. “They have defeated West Indies in Test, ODI and T20 series. So they are enjoying a well-deserved Diwali break. They will be here only on Saturday,” the official added.
Having already won the series, the home team is likely to give chances to a few players, who haven’t played the first two encounters, two of them are all-rounder Washington Sundar and right-handed batsman Shreyas Iyer. Both have been in the selectors’ radar for quite a while.
Sundar injured himself before the T20I series against Ireland earlier this year and was left out thereafter. Iyer, on the other hand, last donned the national colours during India’s T20I series against South Africa in the Rainbow Nation.
