India wait for Kedar Jadhav to get fit ahead of World Cup in England
Jadhav hurt his shoulder while fielding against Kings XI Punjab in Mohali on May 5 and left the field immediately not to return.
Kedar Jadhav had his second worst Indian Premier League (IPL) this year after 2011 when he had averaged six but what has made the fans more concerned is his shoulder injury than his form. The 34-year-old batting all-rounder who plays for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) is a member of India’s World Cup-bound squad.
The Men in Blue will play their first game at the WC against South Africa on June 5 and Jadhav’s injury is a concern at the moment. Chief selector MSK Prasad though has said that the cricketer’s injury might not be as serious as it was thought to be, ESPNcricinfo reported.
As per the ICC’s rules for the World Cup, the participating teams can make changes to their preliminary squads till May 23 and Prasad and the rest of the selectors are believed to wait for as much as possible to see how Jadhav’s condition remains ahead of the team’s departure before renaming a replacement, if the need arises.
Jadhav hurt his shoulder while fielding in CSK-KXIP game
Jadhav hurt his shoulder while fielding against Kings XI Punjab in Mohali on May 5 and left the field immediately not to return. It was believed that the cricketer’s IPL was over for the season and on Tuesday, the speculation was given confirmation by head coach Stephen Fleming who told the host broadcaster on the sidelines of the CSK’s qualifier against Mumbai Indians that they lost by 6 wickets. Jadhav also had a quiet IPL this season, managing just 162 runs from 14 games at an average of 18 and strike rate of below 100. He hit only one fifty in the season.
“Well, he is out for us, and then it is just about being accurate with that assessment. He was going through the scans and working with Patrick Farhart (the Indian team physiotherapist), so there’s obviously one eye now on the World Cup and getting him fit. But from our point of view, he is certainly out of the tournament,” Fleming was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.
Farhart has reportedly updated the selection panel with the news that Jadhav is likely to be fully fit ahead of the squad’s departure for the World Cup on May 22. India have five standby players to chip in if there is a case of injury to any of the regular members and they are: Rishabh Pant, Ambati Rayudu, Navdeep Saini, Axar Patel and Ishant Sharma.
