India Women to host England Women in February and March
Before hosting England, India will fly to New Zealand.
India will have an opportunity to avenge their loss in the semifinal of the World T20I when they host England next month. England had ended India’s promising campaign in the World T20I a couple of months ago by inflicting a heavy 8-wicket defeat on them. Well, India will have a chance to settle the accounts when they take on the visitors in three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and as many T20Is.
This will be England’s second visit to India in less than a year. England had last toured India in March 2018 for a T20I tri-series and an ODI series against the hosts. The tourists had finished the tri-series as runners-up after losing the final against Australia before losing the succeeding ODI series to India 2-1.
Meanwhile, Mumbai will host all the three ODIs on February 22. 25 and 28. Either of Wankhede Stadium or the Brabourne Stadium will host the games as per reports in Firstpost. Points earned from the ODIs will be added to the ICC Women’s Championship in the second cycle. The succeeding T20I series will get underway on March 9 at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium.
Cricket returns to Assam:
The game at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium will end Assam’s long wait to host the national women’s team. The north-eastern state last hosted Indian women team way back in 2005 for a game that did not turn out well for the hosts. England were the opponents then, too, and had bowled out India for just 50. The first women’s international to be held in Assam also featured an England side that lost to India by seven runs in a low-scoring game in 1995. Batting first, India could only manage 85 before bowling out the visitors for 78.
Before hosting England, India will fly to New Zealand. It will be India’s first tour of New Zealand in almost 13 years – and the first under new coach WV Raman. The Women in Blue will play three ODIs and as many T20Is in New Zealand.
Here is the schedule of England’s tour of India:
50-over warm-up v India A: February 18
Three ODIs: February 22, 25 and 28
Three T20Is: Starting March 9
