India Women vs England Women 2019, 3rd ODI – Statistical Highlights
Here are all the major stats and numbers recorded during the final game of the Women’s ODI series.
India Women ended up losing the 3rd match of a bilateral ODI series for the 3rd consecutive time after winning the first two as England Women sneaked in a 2-wicket win on Thursday in Mumbai. Smriti Mandhana (66) and Punam Raut (56) added 129 for the 2nd wicket after losing a wicket on the 2nd ball of the match. However, yet another middle-order collapse had India reeling at 150/7 by the 38th over.
Some late contributions helped India cross the 200-run mark and settle with 205/8 from a stage where 250+ looked certain. Jhulan Goswami’s opening burst reduced the visitors to 49/5 before a lower-order resilience. Skipper Heather Knight (47), Danielle Wyatt (56) and Georgie Elwiss (33*) helped England score 159 runs across the 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th wickets. Subsequently, England secured their first win of the series.
Here are all the major stats and numbers recorded during the final game of the Women’s ODI series:
A sensational comeback from England:
1 – England is the first team to chase down a 200+ target in a Women’s ODI game after losing their first five wickets inside 50 runs. Their score of 49/5 is the 5th worst made by any team before losing their 5th wicket in a successful ODI chase in Women’s cricket.
159 – The 159 runs aggregated by England Women after losing their 5th wicket are the 2nd most by any team in a Women’s ODI chase. They scored 183 runs during the 2007 Chennai ODI against New Zealand but in an unsuccessful chase.
Brunt runs through the Indian batting:
5 – Number of 5-wicket hauls for Katherine Brunt; the joint-most by any player in Women’s ODI cricket. Brunt and Anisa Mohammed have claimed five 5-wicket hauls apiece in Women’s ODI matches.
33y 241d – At the age of 33 years and 241 days, Katharine Brunt became the 2nd oldest player to claim a 5-wicket haul in Women’s ODI cricket. Australia’s Cathryn Fitzpatrick was 37 years and 358 days old when she claimed 5/29 against India in the 2006 Adelaide ODI.
Mandhana continues her domination:
4 – Since the start of 2018, India featured in six bilateral ODI series winning in five of them. They were whitewashed by the visiting Australia team last year. In the four of the five series they won, Smriti Mandhana was named as the Player of the Series. Mandhana has two 50+ scores in all the six series since 2018.
A series for the pacers:
8 – Jhulan Goswami and Shikha Pandey bagged eight wickets apiece in this series; the joint 2nd most wickets picked by an Indian Women in a 3-match ODI series. Deepti Sharma bagged 12 wickets during the 2016 home series against Sri Lanka.
16 – The 16 wickets by the Indian pacers in this series are the most for them in a 3-match Women’s ODI series. They bagged 12 wickets during the last year’s series against Sri Lanka in the latter’s backyard.
A big stand followed by a collapse:
129 – The 129-run partnership between Smriti Mandhana and Punam Raut is India’s 3rd highest stand for any wicket in a Women’s ODI defeat. Mithali Raj had a 157-run stand with Punam in the 2017 CWC and a 150-run stand with Mandhana in the 2016 Hobart ODI; both against Australia and for the 2nd wicket.
21 – India lost six wickets for 21 runs from 129/1 to 150/7. This is the 4th worst 6-wicket collapse for India Women from the point of losing their 2nd wicket in an ODI. Their worst is five runs against New Zealand in 2002.
India lost six wickets for ten runs from 88/1 in the 1995 Patna ODI against England and 18 runs from 47/1 in the 2017 CWC game against South Africa.
