The 6-match T20I series eventually came to an end on Friday where the South Africa Women bagged a consolation win over India Women. Lizelle Lee (84) and Sune Luus (62) shared a 144-run opening stand in quick time as the visitors finished with 175/3. Chasing a big total, India’s key batters in the top-order were dismissed for single digits.
They lost six wickets for just 13 runs on the board before a 49-run stand between Veda Krishnamurthy and Arundhati Reddy saved further embarrassment. India were eventually bowled out for 70 and slumped to a defeat by a record 115-run margin in what was Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur’s 100th T20I match.

A tough day for India women:
70 – The total of 70 in this match is the 2nd lowest total in the T20I format for India Women. They were bowled out for 62 in the 2011 Billericay T20I against Australia Women.
This is also the 2nd lowest total by any team in T20I cricket against South Africa Women. Bangladesh made only 69/7 in their 20 overs during the 2012 Dhaka T20I.
105 – India Women have lost a T20I match by a margin of 100+ runs for the first time. Their previous biggest defeat was by 63 runs in the 2012 Vizag T20I against Australia.
This is the 2nd T20I win with a margin of 100+ runs for South Africa Women. Their first victory by that many margin was in the 2010 Potchefstroom T20I against the Netherlands by 115 runs.
An embarrassing effort from the top-order:
12 – Runs aggregated by India’s top five in this game; the fewest runs by top-5 of any team which is ranked in top 10 in Women’s T20I cricket. Previous lowest was 13 runs by South Africa Women in 2012 WT20 against West Indies and also by Bangladesh Women against Pakistan last year.
13 – The 13 runs India made before losing their 6th wicket are also the fewest for the first six wickets by a top-10 ranked team in Women’s cricket. The previous lowest aggregate for the first six wickets by a top 10 ranked team is 16 runs by Bangladesh Women during the last year’s T20I in Cox’s Bazar.
Indian skipper creates history:
100 – Harmanpreet Kaur became the first Indian in the T20I history across Men’s and Women’s cricket to feature in 100 matches. MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma occupy the second spot in this list for India having played 98 games apiece. Kaur is the 10th woman to complete 100 T20I caps while Shoaib Malik is the only player do the same in Men’s cricket.
Lizelle gets her best:
84 – Lizelle Lee’s 84-run knock in this game is her highest T20I score surpassing the unbeaten 75 she scored this year against Pakistan Women. Her score is also the 3rd highest T20I score for South Africa Women. Shandre Fritz scored 116* against the Netherlands in 2010 while Dane van Niekerk scored 90* in the 2014 WT20 against Pakistan Women.
11 – Lizelle Lee now has scored 11 fifties in the T20I format; the most for South Africa Women in this format. Dane van Niekerk scored 10 fifties in her 76-match T20I career.
175/3 – South Africa Women’s total of 175/3 is their 2nd highest T20I total. Their highest score is 205/1 against the Netherlands Women back in 2010 Potchefstroom.
