It is often said that cricket is a game of great uncertainty. However, for one young astrologer based in Salem, Tamil Nadu, it is not too uncertain. Earlier this year, Balaji Haasan had said in a TV show confidently that India would lose their semi-final match in this year’s cricket World Cup and that New Zealand, who halted the Men in Blue’s juggernaut, will be the eventual champions.

Haasan, who is a mechanical engineer, had also rightly predicted the semi-final line-up saying India, Australia, England and New Zealand will make it to the top four. The striking part is that even the four semi-finalists made it in that order.

On Thursday, a video of that TV show went viral after India lost their semi-final clash against the Kiwis by 18 runs even after putting in a hard effort. Batting first after winning the toss, New Zealand scored 239 for 8 in 50 overs in a game that spilled on to the reserve day.

India then came out to chase and lost three quick wickets early on to be left tottering at 5 for 3. It was a heroic effort from Ravindra Jadeja (77 off 59) and MS Dhoni (50 off 72) that brought India close to their target but eventually it was all over in the third delivery of the 50th over when Virat Kohli’s side was bowled out for 221.

Stars didn’t favour India, says astrologer

“Our (India’s) stars were placed in such unfavourable position that India could not win. Mercury and Rahu, which dominate the sports arena, favour New Zealand winning the World Cup,” Deccan Chronicle was quoted Haasan as saying. The astrologer has a great track record on correctly predicting events in other fields like politics as well.

“This is a difficult question. We are just predicting and the rest lies with fate. The 2019 World Cup is taking place in England and the semi-finalists could be India, Australia, New Zealand and England. India and New Zealand or India and England could play against each other. However, someone new will win, like New Zealand.

“There is a high chance of New Zealand winning the World Cup,” Haasan was quoted as saying. He even predicted Kane Williamson to end up as the Man of the Series and the Kiwi skipper is exactly 100 runs away from becoming the leading run-getter. Even actor Madhavan was astonished to hear the astrologer predicting events with such precision.
