Indian batsmen hate getting out: Mitchell Santner
"We are playing a very good side."
The Indian top order, comprising of the likes of Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, has been pivotal to a number of victories over the last few months. Their impressive performances have been one of the primary reasons why the Men in Blue are ICC’s number two ranked ODI and T20I team. Recently, India won the five-match ODI series against New Zealand 3-0 with two matches still to be played.
The fourth and penultimate match is scheduled to be played tomorrow at the Seddon Park in Hamilton. In the meantime, all-rounder Mitchell Santer reckons that the Black Caps haven’t faltered in their plans but in their execution. He also said that it’s difficult to get the Indian top order out. Moreover, Sannter mentioned that the Indian bowlers have done exceedingly well in the first 10 overs.
With the bat, it’s trying to build those partnerships
“We are playing a very good side … I do think we’re not too far off. I think the plans have been pretty solid – maybe the execution’s been off at times. I guess the key for us is to keep taking wickets through the middle, keep being aggressive. They obviously hate getting out – just got to find ways to try and get wickets,” Santner was quoted as saying prior to the match.
“With the bat, it’s trying to build those partnerships throughout. We saw a good one between Ross [Taylor] and Tom [Latham] last game, then we lost a couple and we fell over a bit. They’ve bowled very well in the top 10 and we haven’t really got away so if we can get through the first 10 [overs] with wickets in hand then set up the back-end where we’ve got some power hitters that we can get to a pretty good total,” he added.
The 26-year-old Santner played in the first match at the McLean Park in Napier and returned wicketless. Furthermore, he couldn’t make much of an impact with the bat either. Subsequently, he was sidelined for the second ODI at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui. Nevertheless, the Hamilton-born was included for the third match at the same venue.
