Indian cricket fan in Bangladesh commits suicide after India's defeat in CT 2017

In a very unfortunate turn of events, an Indian cricket fan from Bangladesh ended his life after India’s shock defeat against Pakistan in the 2017 edition of the Champions Trophy. The game is revered to great extents in the Asian subcontinent. Needless to say, that the game of cricket has become a religion for many and the players have emerged to be the god-like figures for the fans.
However, when someone ends up ending their life based on the result of a particular game, one would reckon that things are certainly going a little overboard. As per the reports in The New Indian Express, the fan from Bangladesh who committed suicide after India’s defeat on Sunday hailed from Jamalpur region. He was identified as Bidyut – a 25 year old youngster.
He was the son of Anisur Rahman of Shang Gae area and had a food vendor business. The reports revealed that Bidyut killed himself by jumping in front of a moving train moments after the the match between India and Pakistan got over. The report was confirmed by leading news daily – the Dhaka Tribune. The officials of the Railway Police expressed their grief over the sad demise of Bidyut.
The Government Railway Police Station Office in-charge (OC), Mr. Nasirul Islam, confirmed the news and quoted, “Disheartened by the match result, Bidyut committed suicide by jumping in front of a running train Sunday night.”
India’s defeat to Pakistan
In the match, the Indian team was being tagged as the favorites to win the tournament. Nobody had given a sniff to the Pakistani side to clinch the title. However, as the things unfolded on the day, a century from Fakhar Zaman saw Pakistan post a total of 338 on the board. Team India, in their response, were dented early by the triple strike by Mohammad Amir and eventually ended up losing the contest by 180 runs.
