Ahead of the fourth Test against England, India were dealt with a setback as it was revealed that India’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has asked the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to release him from the squad citing personal reasons. Bumrah hasn’t been named in the five-match T20I series against the same opponents that will commence from March 12 at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad.
In the same light, it was learned that Bumrah has even asked for a break from three One Day Internationals against England that will take place after the conclusion of the T20I series. Though earlier it was mentioned that he is asking for a break from cricket for personal reasons, it is now revealed that the ace cricketer is getting married and needs time to prepare for the biggest day of his life.
A source close to the Indian board in the know of developments has confirmed that the pacer is set to get married soon and has taken a leave to prepare for the same. However, the name of the girl to whom the right-arm seamer is tying the knot is unknown.
“He informed the BCCI that he is getting married and has taken the leave to help in preparations for the big day,” the source said as quoted by Hindustan Times.
Jasprit Bumrah featured in two Test games against England
Thus far in the four-match Test series, Jasprit Bumrah has featured in just two matches out of the three played. In the first Test match that was hosted at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, Bumrah ended up with four wickets including a three-wicket haul in the first innings and one scalp in the second one.
This was followed by the seamer getting rested for the second Test at the same venue as the team-management decided to manage his workload. The pacer returned in the third Test at the newly reconstructed Narendra Modi Stadium but went wicketless in both the innings as the spinners namely Axar Patel and Ravi Ashwin ruled the show.
India is leading the Test series by 2-1 and needs just one victory or draw to enter the final of the inaugural edition of the World Test Championship.
