Famous lyricist and actor Arunraja Kamaraj has been looking forward to the start of a new journey. He’s all set to be directing a film based on Women’s cricket. Arunraja a popular name in the Tamil cinema industry met the former India Women’s cricketer Devika Palshikar in Pune to seek her inputs for the film.
Devika confirmed the news and looked forward to sharing her expertise for the untitled Tamil film on women’s cricket. The filmmakers mentioned in a statement that as soon as Devika learnt about the topic, she readily agreed to help and offer her views and opinions for the same.
“Her support will help create a bigger buzz about the film. I’m really happy and I’d be more than happy to take her help. It’d be interesting if any other Indian team player would also be part of the project. We are yet to audition the cast,” Arunraja said.
Directorial debut
This is going to be his first film as a director and he sounds really excited.
“This is going to be a film on sports, focusing on women’s cricket. I wrote the script much before the just concluded ICC Women’s World Cup in which the Indian team won millions of hearts with their tremendous game and passion,” he said.
Arunraja emphasised on the importance of following one’s passion more than anything else. “This story is about following our passions.” He also informed that some of the scenes in the film are going to be inspired by real-life incidents.
Over the years, we’ve seen various sports film in Bollywood based on women like Mary Kom as well as all time classics like Chak De India and Dangal. However, this is the first time a project based on women’s cricket is set to roll out on the silver screen. Women’s cricket has certainly gained lots of traction after Team India ended up as finalists in the recently concluded World Cup.
