Indian all-rounder Yusuf Pathan has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket. The dashing cricketer was considered as one of the prime players who excelled in the T20 era. Yusuf bid adieu to the game on 26th February 2021.
He was instrumental in helping Rajasthan Royals clinch the title in the inaugural season of IPL. Yusuf made his debut in first-class cricket in the 2001-02 season. He played a total of 100 first-class games aggregating 4825 runs which included 11 centuries and 20 half-centuries.
In international cricket, Yusuf was part of the Indian team for 57 ODIs and 22 T20Is. His famous century against South Africa in Centurion ODI, 2011 during a chase albeit in a losing cause is still itched in the memories of Indian fans. Yusuf is considered among one of the IPL greats, where he amassed 3204 runs at an impressive strike rate of 142.97. He hit one hundred and 13 fifties in the tournament.

210* – Yusuf Pathan played one of the greatest knocks in first-class cricket when he hit a double century in the fourth inning in the Duleep Trophy Final, 2010. He hit 210 runs off 190 balls in the fourth innings to help West Zone chase a mammoth target of 536 runs in the fourth innings. This is still the record for the highest-ever successful chase in the fourth innings in first-class cricket.
Yusuf registered the second-highest score by an Indian player in the fourth innings during a successful chase. Only Venugopal Rao who hit 228 runs against England A is ahead of him. Yusuf had also hit a magnificent century in the first innings of the match scoring 108 runs off only 76 balls which included 12 fours and 5 sixes.
15 – Yusuf hit a total of 15 sixes in both innings of the match. This is the record for second-highest sixes by an Indian batsman in a first-class match. Rishabh Pant has hit the most number of sixes (21) in a first-class match among Indians.
37 – Yusuf Pathan hit a hundred in only 37 balls against Mumbai Indians while playing for Rajasthan Royals in an IPL match in 2010. This is the fastest century by an Indian in IPL, and second fastest after Chris Gayle (30 balls) in overall record. Yusuf hit 9 fours and 8 sixes in his innings while chasing a target of 213 runs. Rajasthan Royals eventually lost this match by a margin of only 4 runs.
15 – The Indian all-rounder while playing for Kolkata Knight Riders smacked 72 runs off only 22 balls against Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2014. He reached his half-century in only 15 balls during the innings. This was the record of the fastest half-century in IPL at that time. Currently, it stands at the joint second spot along with the innings of Sunil Narine and only behind KL Rahul (14 balls) in the record list.
56 – In the IPL final 2008, Yusuf played a brilliant knock of 56 runs in the successful chase against Chennai Super Kings and also took 3 wickets with the ball. He is the only player in IPL history to score a fifty and pick 3 or more wickets in the final.
68 – In the ODI match against South Africa in 2011, Yusuf smashed a ton off only 68 balls. This is the third fastest hundred by an Indian player in an away ODI match. Virender Sehwag (60 balls) and Suresh Raina (66 balls) are the only other players who are ahead of Yusuf in this regard.
113.60 – Yusuf Pathan’s superb strike rate of 113.60 in ODI cricket is the second-highest by an Indian with a minimum of 500 runs in the format. Only Hardik Pandya has scored runs at a better pace (115.43) than Yusuf in the 50-over format for India.
18 – Yusuf Pathan slammed a fifty in only 18 balls against Vidarbha during Ranji Trophy 2012. This is the record for a joint second-fastest half-century by an Indian in first-class cricket. Shakti Singh of Himachal Pradesh has also smashed a fifty in the same number of balls.
40 – In the Vijay Hazare Trophy match in 2010 played between Baroda and Maharashtra, Yusuf played a blistering knock of 108 runs off 42 balls. He ran to a three-figure mark in only 40 balls creating a milestone for the fastest hundred by an Indian in List-A cricket. This record still stands even after 10 years of that game.
18 – In the Deodhar Trophy final 2010, Yusuf while playing for West Zone hit a half-century in only 18 balls. He played an explosive knock of 80 runs off 39 balls including 3 fours and 9 sixes. Yusuf registered the second-fastest fifty by an Indian in List-A cricket during this innings.
