Politics and Cricket are currently the two biggest aspects of India. Whilst the former is witnessing one of its biggest diversification ever with the General Elections going on in full swing at the moment, cricket is also at its highest peak as the 12th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is lighting up the country. The cricketing extravaganza doesn’t stop here with the ICC World Cup set to commence on May 30 in England.

And as Indian citizens are currently busy watching IPL and voting as well, in the following slides,
the burghers, who are interested in both politics, as well as cricket, will get to read an interesting piece regarding these state of affairs.

Here we bring you five star Indian cricketers and their political equivalents

1. MS Dhoni – Narendra Modi

The former Indian skipper MS Dhoni and the current Indian PM Narendra Modi have quite a lot of similarities. Both of them possess mass popularity and there is widespread support for the two. They are both known for taking shocking decisions, all of a sudden, and have a great sense of humour (which is clearly visible during press conferences). Their love for kids is also not hidden from anyone. And the biggest of all the similitudes is the fact that both the legendary figures are known for being excellent leaders.

Even if you talk about the family backgrounds, the two share equivalence. Both Dhoni and Modi are small-towners and belong to poor families. Howbeit, intense hard work, and passion that the two possess, has eventually helped them to gain huge success. Their journey from mediocre backgrounds i.e. from tea-seller and ticket collector to the top of the ladder i.e. becoming the Indian PM and leading the team to 3 ICC trophies, respectively is what makes them different from others.

2. Mithali Raj – Mamta Banerjee

Mithali Raj and Mamta Banerjee, have both been two of the most powerful women of Indian Cricket and Indian politics respectively. Both of them are the face of Women in their respective fields. Both boast very strong characters and have a decent fanbase. The two are also known for fearlessly raising their voice against higher authorities, e.g. Mithali vs the team management (against the coach Ramesh Powar’s behaviour) and Mamta vs the central government.

The two high-profile names have achieved some astonishing milestones as well. Mamta Banerjee is the first woman to hold the office of the Chief Minister in Bengal, whilst Mithali Raj is also the only Woman Cricketer to surpass the 6000-run mark in WODIs.

3. Virat Kohli – Arvind Kejriwal

The personalities of Virat Kohli and Arvind Kejriwal are similar in several ways. Both of them carry the expectations of thousands of people and are surrounded by lots of vows. The two are too good as individuals but when it comes to leading or managing a bunch of people, the lads have miserably failed to prove their mettle hitherto. Both of them have a stubborn character too.

Kohli and Kejriwal, have both been associated with Delhi, throughout their life. The two have achieved enormous success while playing/contesting at one level, howbeit, they have failed to make a mark, when they tried something new. For example – Kohli has achieved several milestones while shouldering the Indian mantle but has turned out to be a complete mug while leading RCB. Simultaneously, Arvind Kejriwal has also been the undisputed king of Delhi, till now, but the guy is yet to get success at a higher level i.e.. the central elections.

4. Rohit Sharma – Rahul Gandhi

Rahul Gandhi & Rohit Sharma, oddly resemble each other in many ways. The former’s personality is analogous to that of the latter in several aspects. Like Rohit, who is definitely an extremely-talented lad, always gets overshadowed by different powers, Rahul, in the same ways, has still not been able to build his own grandeur despite being dexterous. Both of them, despite being skilful, still have a long way to go and are yet to register their name as the legends of their respective field.

At the same time, Rohit is known for being a coach’s captain, which was quite visible in the documentary ‘Cricket Fever’, in the same manner, Rahul Gandhi too works under the guidance of higher authorities of his political party.

5. Rahul Dravid – Manohar Parrikar

The Late Manohar Parrikar and the former Indian cricketer Rahul Dravid are two of the most respected men of their respective fraternities. Both have been hailed for their simple lifestyle and beautiful nature on multiple occasions. They are also known for standing in defence of India, silently. Whilst, Dravid is widely regarded as ‘The Wall’ of Indian cricket for his skills of defending the ball with consummate ease, the late Manohar Parrikar’s tenure, as the country’s Defence Minister, has been extremely successful.

In terms of family background, education and expressiveness, both the legendary figures again equate each other in several ways. Both of them come from a Maharashtrian family and are well-educated as the former cricketer has a Bachelor’s degree in commerce, the former politician was the first IITian to become an MLA in the history of Indian politics. Both of them are also known for being serene, peaceful and calm personalities.
