Twitter Reactions: Indian cricketers 'deeply saddened' by singer KK's untimely demise
KK was performing in a live concert in Kolkata when he fell ill and passed away later.
Prominent singer Krishnakumar Kunnath, popularly known as KK, passed away in Kolkata on May 31 (Tuesday) night after reportedly feeling ill during a live performance in a college fest. Following his shocking death at the age of 53, condolences and heartfelt messages poured in from all quarters and the cricketing fraternity also mourned the death of the veteran singer.
Several prominent cricketers including Anil Kumble, Virender Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh, VVS Laxman, Suresh Raina, Harbhajan Singh, Wasim Jaffer, and Sunil Joshi among others took to Twitter to express grief and offer condolences to the singer’s family. The 53-year-old was one of the most popular singers in the Indian film industry and recorded songs in several languages including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Bengali.
“Deeply saddened by the passing of KK. Condolences to his family and friends,” wrote former India captain and former head coach Anil Kumble, while former India opener Virender Sehwag wrote: “Tragic to hear about the passing away of KK after falling ill while performing in Kolkata. Another reminder of how fragile life is. Condolences to his family and friends. Om Shanti.”
Current NCA head VVS Laxman tweeted: “Saddened by the untimely demise of a wonderful Singer, KK. He will live on through his music. My heartfelt condolences to his family and friends. Om Shanti”.
“Devastated to know about the sudden death of playback singer #KK. His soulful & melodious songs could easily connect with the hearts of millons of people. My heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and followers. May his pious soul rest in peace,” read former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh’s tweet.
“Lost a magnificent singer of our times and so suddenly. Condolences to his family and close ones #KK ” wrote former Indian skipper Virat Kohli.
