Indian Domestic cricket legend Subramaniam Badrinath retires from First Class Cricket

One of the run scoring machines in domestic cricket, Subramaniam Badrinath, has decided to retire from First Class cricket to concentrate on playing T20s only. After Ravi Shastri roped in the services of Bharath Arun as the full-time bowling coach, Hyderabad will now miss out on the services of Badrinath in First Class cricket.

Badrinath, who has had limited opportunities to represent India, is yet another victim of playing in an era dominated by the Fab 4. Later on, the likes of Kohli, Rahane, Pujara and Rohit Sharma, took over the batting helms from the greats. As a result, Badrinath, even after accumulating heaps of runs could find a place in the Indian side.

Interestingly, Virat Kohli and Badrinath made their international debut on the same occasion in ODIs. In 145 FC matches, Badri has amassed as many as 10245 runs at an outstanding average of 54. He has slammed 32 centuries in FC Cricket. With the kind of numbers he possesses, it is baffling to see that Badri played only two Test matches and 7 ODIs.

“I have not announced my retirement from cricket. I’m going to play Tamil Nadu Premier League T20 but I have decided to call it a day in first class cricket as it requires a lot of travel. I have to be away from family. It is a personal decision and I have played close to 20 years of first class cricket. I thought I needed a break.” commented Subramaniam Badrinath according to Telangana Today.

Badri does not have the zeal to play FC Cricket anymore

“My body is also not taking up to the challenge and last season, I had to take pain killers to play for Hyderabad. The motivation level has also dropped and I have achieved 10,000 runs in first class cricket. I don’t have much of driving force now to put in the game. I played as a professional in the last three years. It was not easy and it was challenging as well.” further added Badri.

While signing off, the former CSK batsman praised Mohammad Siraj and quoted,”He has the potential to play higher level of cricket but it is important to keep focused. He has to work hard and learn the game in the right way. He should build on his experience” conclude Badrinath.
