Indian domestic cricketers to get massive pay hike from BCCI
The players who feature in additional matches i.e. knockouts will be eligible for a higher pay.
Last week, the central contracts for the Indian cricket team were announced. The senior team got a huge pay hike in the retainer fees and a new A+ Grade was also added to the contract list. Now, much to the joy of domestic crickets, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is planning to raise the salaries of the domestic players as well corresponding to the 26% share from BCCI’s gross revenues. For long it has been argued that domestic cricketers need to be paid better and the matter seems to have been addressed by the cricket board.
Minimum Rs 26 lakhs per domestic season
As per reports, a domestic cricketer will be paid at least Rs 26 lakhs for one whole season – which includes the Ranji Trophy, Duleep Trophy, Syed Mushtaque Ali Trophy and the Vijay Hazare Trophy among others. And as it appears Rs. 26 lakhs signifies a big increment.
“If a domestic cricketer was making around Rs 10 lakh per season, he will make Rs 20 lakh upfront from BCCI and another Rs 6 to 7 lakh from BCCI’s gross revenue share to make it Rs 26 lakh,” Times of India quoted BCCI’s Committee of Administrators’ (C0A) chairman Mr Rai as saying.
“This is quite a jump from what the domestic cricketers were making in the past. Earlier, they were paid Rs10,000 per day. Now, they will get Rs 35,000, which is a considerable jump,” Rai added.
Some reports in the media also add that the players will be paid by BCCI directly and those who will play more matches than the rest, i.e. the ones who will play the knockouts of a tournament, will be entitled to more money.
“Of course, if certain teams play more matches, they would be paid more because the number of days will go up,” Rai further stated.
With a raise in the income of domestic players, BCCI will ensure that they do not have to take up other jobs in the off season from March to September.
